gpu encoding/transcoding on 4800 series ATI cards?

read it here. searched on this and found it will be added as a patch at some point in the future - nice and vague

anyone heard/have info on when those of us with ATi cards (4850 in my case) will be able to use the gpu in this way?

Yep, they want you to buy their current product (Cyberlink, not ATI/AMD) so they'll be able to afford to add a patch for Version 8, that allows GPU encoding. Then they'll say "We didn't lie." It's called marketing, unfortunately. I wish it were called what it actually is, lying.
