Hey, I don't know which forum to post this in, so into off topic it goes.

I have a hard drive that's partitioned with GPT and it has a large NTFS partition full of data that I need to back up. I have an SATA usb enclosure and I could possibly get access to a desktop PC with internal SATA.

So far, I've just tried plugging the usb enclosure into Windows Vista and Ubuntu, but neither one sees the drive at all.

You need help, so I'm going with Computer Help.

Don't know why it's not seeing it. All versions of Vista can read GPT and Microsoft says GPT is readable over a "detachable disk", like Firewire, and (you'd assume) USB. I assume you already asked Disk Management to "Rescan Disks".

I'd probably try adding it directly to a SATA controller with a SATA cable and see what's up.
