I have the new Delorme Earthmate along with the Delorme Street Atlas Handheld software. My intention was to use it with my IPAQ PDA to follow the progress of commercial aircraft while flying. Some airlines do not have restrictions on using a GPS so it seems like it would be very interesting for accurately knowing what I am looking out the window at. My only real interest is to see our location on a map of the United States along with our altitude, speed, and direction. I certainly do not need to see detail at street level. To my surprise, I just discovered that the Delorme software only allows exporting maps at street level detail. Microsoft Streets & Maps also has this limitation. Niether has provisions to export a large scale maps (as would be useful on a cross country airplane flight). Therefore it will be impossible to use the Earthmate with my PDA while on an airplane.
Is there any software that can be used with the new Earthmate (an NMEA GPS) that is cable of exporting large scale maps to a Windows CE based PDA (like the IPAQ)?
