I bought an EEE pc and have a usb GPS receiver for it on the way. I managed to install a very slim XP and have added an 8G sd card pushing the available memory to 12gigs.
I'm looking for some GPS software to go along with the receiver. One special request is that, I don't care about routes, driving direction or anything like that. (I will always know where I'm going and how to get there beforehand.) I just want the software to show where I am at any point in time.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I've found a couple including the open source Navit and have looked at the Garmin software as well. If I just want a basic location, would something like Google Earth work?
Also, I have a trip to Tokyo for two weeks in late April and it would be fantastic if the software had maps for Japan, which I've found that almost no software does. There's gotta be something out there with Asia or Japan map capability?
