GPS Reciever

I have a Dell Axim X50 and a Laptop I take on the train to use for GPS tracking...I am buying a bluetooth reciever and some maps on an SD card for my PDA. These are both prety expensive so im still deciding, but I need to get some kind of GPS for a trip next week, I have Microsoft Streets and Trips installed..What is a cheap GPS reciever (say. USB...) that I could use with it that I can pick up on ebay..just need a temporay solution before I spend $300+ on the pda stuff.

You can buy the OEM GPS receivers. They're cheap, small and obviously easy to use. I only suggest this because you indicate you're wanting to use Microsoft Streets and not the GPS itself.

This is the first one I found on eBay. I use this configuration while traveling and have never had any problems.

Why don't you buy a bluetooth card for the laptop so that you can keep on using your current GPS receiver?

This and a BT dongle for your laptop to use the receiver with S&T. Or get the iGuidance bundle, that software works on both PPCs and PCs. TomTom is better for turn-by-turn though, but only works on PDAs.

I use this receiver with iGuidance on my TMobile MDA. The receiver is great, battery lasts forever with the auto-shutoff.

If you're going to eventually get a bluetooth GPS reciever for the PDA anyway, why not just get it now?

I have a Dell X50v that I use with a Globalsat BT-338 and it works great. It was $100. If you get a cheapo reciever now and then get a bluetooth one later, you'd be selling the cheaper one at a loss.

"usb gps receiver" gets a whole bunch of hits on ebay. Look like some pretty good prices to.

Your X50 has bluetooth so that shoud be a natural choice. By the way, MS S&T does not have a routig function.

i guess you got the S&T without the GPS chip. I own the GPS package of S&T, and it works pretty well. But why does that cheapo add on receiver, requiring USB power, work better 100x better than my Garmin Forerunner (which doesnt even need to find a map, just locate me?) As soon as i plug in the receiver that came with S&T, it has already found me, where the Garmin Forerunner watch can take minutes, or not even find me at all (in metro Atlanta, around tall buildings, but still).
