Looking to pick up a gift for the gf, i'm starting my research now, plans on getting it towards end of nov.

-small thinner ones.
-VERY ease of use
-touch screen
-$250 tag.
-Live traffic i can go either way, i heard there is normally monthly/yearly fees with it...

i assume these are standard features but i would like to list them
-obviously voice enable
-auto re-route if missed exit
-timely reminder of how long you have untill arrival

I've been looking at the TomTom One lately. As it seems to be popular and right in my price tag.

I've been looking at the TomTom One lately. As it seems to be popular and right in my price tag.

Except I haven't able to test any GPS w/ TMC for less than $250.
TTone TMC receiver will cost you extra $100+
TT TMC wasn't very accurate according to many reports. (actually, the U.S. TMC still not quite adequate)

TTone's short battery life ( During my testing period, there is no way to let it run more than 100 min per charge. That is if you don't mind carrying charger or playing w/ power cord in your car )

TTone's screen got washout on sunny day, NOT even direct sun light.
Again, no final designation prompt. Say...you are on 4~6 lane roads, which is extremely common in the U.S. TT will only prompt you "arrived your designation in 300 yard."
But it refuse to tell you "on your left or right".
This may not be a problem if you are somewhere remote. Try that in Major City w/ many One way street, you will know those Taxi is going to honk your behind off, just because you slowing down to figure out the which side of road is your DESIGNATION.
