I have $150 gift card to Dell and I thought I might try to get GPS with it, but I know nothing about GPS units.

The DigiWalker is $159.99.
The TomTom is $199.99, but on sale for $159.99.

Which one should I get? Or are they both crap?

Mio C230: has TTS, no Canadian map, Very limited POI, 2.5 hr battery life, has expansion SD, better screen resolution and non-reflective screen than TT1-3
Sirf III chipset.

TT1-3: come w/ Canadian map, no TTS, 1.5 hr battery life, no expansion possible.
Hammerhead chipset.

Both are using TeleAtlas and similar routing engine. There isn't much to compare between these two. If you are in the U.S., Navteq seems to be much better. Again, it also depends on where you live.

How's the speaker volume on the Tomtom? I have a C220 (same model w/o TTS), and speaker just isn't loud enough for the car. The Magellan Roadmate 2200 has a much better speaker.

Previous version 2 is expandable w/ SD card. (which still using Sirf chip)
Nowadays, you can only get version 3 which w/out SD card slot (using hammerhead chip)

TT1-2 and TT1-3 has good volume.
To be fair, C220 is old and C230 does has good volume.
Magellan 32xx, 42xx series also has loud and sharp volume, except, there isn't any selection.
Nuvi 2xx has 4ohm speakers which produce loudest volume among all entry level gps.
(it also has many different voice selections like tomtom)

They do use the same mapping source, which is the most improtant feature of any GPS device IMO, but I'd get the TomTom ONE 3rd because it has the TomTom features like MapShare and Help Me! I've had a good experience with TT so I just trust them more.

I love that you can use your own sounds for POI in TT7 software on the One. Everytime my GF speeds 'I' tell her to slow down! ;)

So it sounds like I should get the Tom Tom for sure.

Edit: The sale on it ends tonight, so I went ahead and ordered it.
