GPA on Resume?

memo

Golden Member
Sub 3 GPA? Leave it off or keep on? I say leave it off but my friend tells me its an insult to the employer to put sub 3 GPA. I don't agree to that extents but i say leave it off.

Leaving it off the resume does not make it go away. If you are looking for an out of college job or any type of position that will have competition by your peers, they are gonna ask for it. In my experience, everytime I have gone to a school job fair or whatever, if its not on there they will ask you and write it for you.

Depends on what your GPA was. It could come off as symptoms of an overachievement complex if it's particularly high.

If you really want your GPA to show up on your employment application just attach a copy of your school transcripts to it. That doesn't look bad at all.

I don't think the sub 3 GPA would make them not want to employ you, it would be that you were dumb enough to actually put it on there...

The latter is a complete CON!

How so? This is a tip I got from some Business Writing text..and if he puts down "GPA last two years" then he's not conning.

I've heard from "resume writers" that you should leave anything below 3.0 off. Then again, you're only really supposed to include your GPA if you're right out of college, and don't have much relevant work experience.

It's really up to you. The "last two years" or major GPA recommendations weren't bad, either. Most graduate schools look more heavily at your last two years than your cum. GPA, so some employers might do the same.

I put both overall and my in major GPAs. My overall GPA is around 3.0 but my inmajor is around 3.9, so I think that's fair enough... if an employee doesn't want to employ me because of how I did in an elective theater arts class, i wouldn't want to work there anyways...

According to my technical writer teacher, if your cumulative is above 3.0, put it on. If your cumulate isn't and your major is, put your major on, but make sure that you note that that is not your cumulative. Don't want to accidentally mislead people. I don't recall what she said if neither was above 3.0, but it makes sense to not list either. Like someone said, if they really want to know, they'll ask.

for those who put depends on school/major. would it make it ok to put a 2.6 if you want to standford or MIT engineering?
