Keep writing the review and then you should apply for Editor Job at places like gamespot , IGN , 1up ... ect. Also make an online portfolio with all the stuff you done.

pretty good read. It's long enough to get a good review the game and not too long where I just skim and close it :)

Keep writing and posting here I'd probably read it

Several run-on sentences and a couple typos aside, I think it was pretty good.

Keep them coming!

I wrote this assuming you wanted a critical response, maybe you're not bothered about doing this as a career/hobby. I'm not an expert and I only read about a third of the text and skimmed the rest, but for what it's worth:

1. It's very formal in tone, although it breaks down in random places to something much less structured. Develop a tone and stick with it. It's not an essay but it's not IM either.

2. Compose paragraphs so you don't repeat yourself as much, try to make it flow.

3. Talk about yourself less, lose the repetition of "I am". You're talking about your opinion and preferences but it's about the game and describing what the reader will and won't like. Include yourself in places but don't bash the reader round the head with it.

4. First paragraph needs serious work, this is the attention grabber. Screw it up and you're lost. Work out your key points and trim the sentences down.

5. Read other reviews of Gears of War - what did they cover and how did they structure it? Learn from their success and their mistakes.

6. Keep writing!

Now that I have a little more time I wanted to say a little more about the feedback (especially mmmskyscraper's :) )

I do the reviews on a very casual basis, I dont make any money (i.e. no ads) as I just like to vent my feelings and try and give a more balanced, hype-free perspective (as opposed to the paid-off general press :) )

Thus I don't spend a lot of time on them... yes I know there are run on sentences and not the best formatting :) If I was being paid they would be of an exponentially higher standard!

I just like chewing the fat over the games that really grab my attention (for bad or good reasons!) and usually post them here and another few forums where I generally enjoy and value other's opinions :)

To those who like it GREAT :)

And skyskraper I really appreciate the time you took to give some in depth feedback!

I know the tone is not very consistent, but thats because really I am just spouting whatever comes into my head :) As said before if I was doing it for a living there would certainly be more thought going into such things :)
I did read a fair few reviews and there were some great ones (one that I cant remember where I saw it... but was entitled something like 'Reasons not to give a 10') but there were a few things I had to get off my chest like for instance the fact that they all seemed to miss the repititious checkpoints that are so badly placed they make sit through dialogue a million times, or just walk through empty, non-active portitions of the levels needlessley.

All in all I think its fun to write and chat about these games, I freely admit I love a bad game as there as so much to write about... but unfortunately its at the expense of having paid my own cash for a game and a blog gives great therapy whereby you get the moaning off your chest and chastise the dev's of lazy games in a public way :)

EDIT: OMFG! Thats a lot of smileys.... I must be in a very good mood! (resists temptation to add another smiley)
