GOW Issue

I just installed GOW on vista ultimate 32 with all the updates and drivers for vista everything up to date. I also installed the KB940105 update for vista. After I launch the game I still get the "Gears Of War Has Stopped Working" Box and thats it and its all over. I dont have time to go in and use the update live because it crashes within seconds. I googled the issue and I wasnt able to find a solution. If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much.

How do you start the game? If you start it from the autorun from the DVD, don't. Start the game via the games folder.

WOW that worked. Ok now that I look stupid why exactly doesnt the dvd autorun work?
