GoW freezing...cant figure it out

Ok first off. I am not having a problem playing any other game. Lost Planet, CoD4, SupCom FA, WiC, etc etc all run fine.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled GoW twice. I run the game, it shows its little splash title screen, then goes to a black full screen to load up and it freezes every time. when I ctrl alt del it just shows Gears of War - not responding. In a diff thread some people suggesting turning off the video card control programs that run in the background. that didnt work. Any ideas?

Q6600
4gb ram
xp prof 32

Ok so I turned off the nvidia control panel again and this time the game worked. Question tho, if this control is turned off will the gpu temp controls that I made (ie, when the gpu temp goes above 70degrees make the fan speed 100%) still turn on?
