We friends want to open up a venue and have saved up quite a bit of money for it. They found a good old warehouse they can get that would be perfect (secluded, good sized, etc).

Well now they just found out that there are regulations from requing wheel-chair ramps to making sure it's painted right (not to mention tons others). Stupid. Regulations are just discouraging entrepenuers.

What about the rich laywers?

Who needs sprinklers in a nightclub with acts using pyro?

Who needs exit signs and exit doors that aren't locked shut?

Who needs sanitary conditions in the kitchen, safely prepared food, and clean water lines for the bar?

Who needs to spend the money to get the old, disintegrating asbestos insulation removed from the rafters?

Curse you Nanny State!!

customers and employees certainly won't go anywhere that will kill them/make them sick. And if they do, that's their fault.

Customers may not realize the poor conditions that await them when business owners don't follow the proper codes already in place.

He has a point, no one in a wheelchair is likely to go into a club that plays fast music in which violent dancing/moshing is likely.

Especially since there will be no ADA access.

Most codes are in place for a reason.

The reason is asshole business owners would put their customers in harms way in a ****** old building if the government didn't FORCE them to make the place safe.

Yes because conservatives don't value life or safety.

Are you kidding?

I'm a conservative, and I think that supporting businesses through lower taxes, less regulation and less red tape is the best thing for the country. A few lives shouldn't get in the way of the economic possibilities of new ventures.

Look, the reason we have all of these friggen regulations is that nobody want to take responsibility for their own actions, not the owner who should want to make sure his business is safe for both employees and customers, and especially not the customer since obviously it not their responsibility to actually put a little though in to anything, including their own safety. Its just so much easier to force people to do things than actually expect them to take responsibility for their own actions.

Isn't it nice that we have to ask the government for permission to do anything, oh and generally pay for the privilege too?

For the record, I consider my home town to be a communist country..... And I am from the Midwest....

Because the government is going to FORCE them to patronize there?

In the end, the lawyers get rich, and more people get their lazy-ass unproductive government jobs.

And your friend would be bitching because the company who built the warehouse didn't have to follow code and the roof fell off after 6 months.

Just think what the insurance rates woud be if we didn't have some regulation.

Because people will hire construction companies that build crap, right? Because roofs fell off all the time before regulations, right? Sure...

It's beginning to sound like your friend just didn't do research into what was required before starting and is now bitching about the real costs.

Most of those regulations have been around for years.

No, it sounds like an eager young entrepeneur is being denied an opportunity to bring good to the community because big brother knows what's best.

Like I said, these regulations only make it so that people who are already rich and have access to good lawyers can start businesses (since lawyers know the loopholes). This decreases competition, which IMO, is the greatest thing for consumers.
