LOL, fail. I can assure you that's not the problem. We need to remove the "No child left behind" (which = hold every child behind) bullshit as well as other things. This "testing" model isn't the greatest thing in the world either. Everything is geared toward "testing" instead of actually learning.
I hope you know that NCLB was the brain child of Ted Kennedy. It was also supported by both sides of congress. So let's not pretend it was a left v right thing.

where did engineer say anything about left vs. right?

the very premise of NCLB is flawed if you ever spend any time in a school (or even talk to a teacher). teachers can only do so much to make their students pass or achieve a certain score on a test. the rest is up to the student, and if that student wants to fail, he or she WILL fail regardless of what the teacher does.

instead of teaching actual content, teachers now have to teach to a test to make sure that students pass, which is even worse because now you're not necessarily teaching information, but teaching how to take a test, which is even more detrimental in the long run.

i have a friend who teaches and she has to pass a certain number of people in the class. that's insanity. if you're not proficient, you're not proficient. don't pass go and collect $200.

education doesn't start in school. it starts at home, and i can virtually guarantee that every (or damn close to it) student who does well has parents who care about their child's education.
