I got an email inviting me to join a blog based on the contnet of my website......... I find that weird. I have since taken my site down. Anyone else gotten something like that?

What kind of website was it? Its easy enough for them to send admin accounts email if you don't have it turned off by default.
 
My experience has been that people run from me as fast as they can. They don't want me joining anything they are a part of.

I refuse to join any organization that will have me as a member.

 
I don't know why they wouldn't run honeypots. They would be great learning, research, training, and enforcement tools.

But then again, they really don't need honeypots because their real networks are pretty sweet as it is and attract many attacks.

Don't think it was a gov't conspiracy... they have spiders out there that send emails to site admins geared toward your site's content. No different than why google ads are tailored to the genre of the site.
