Gov considering other ways to entice the economy

President Bush was considering further plans to help energize the economy

So, though some have yet to receive their "first" stimulus checks, this isn't the first I've heard of maybe another plan. Assuming it was a carbon copy, what are your thoughts? Mine are that it would be patent insanity. One could say that we need more help, another could say that it's pee on a bonfire, too little too late, and merely postponing some inevitable pain (I would be that other). Afterall, the money has to come from somewhere and these days it would be national debt. What it would really amount to would be a gasoline subsidy. The current one is basically that anyway.

Not such a bad idea...

This economy needs major reconstructive surgery and I doubt that any of our politicians are up to the task. First we need address the energy crisis, our nation's population explosion (which worsens the energy crisis and environmental problems), global labor arbitage, and health care.

As the poster below you said, interesting idea. At first I laughed, then I thought hey... thats not a bad idea.


Let's take all that money we spend on the war on drugs and start paying off national debt. Then lets take all the taxation money from legalized Marijuana and use that to research alternative energy sources. Then lets take the money the country saves from imprisoning thousands of people for Marijuana possession/dealing and spend that money on educating and improving intercity schools, or whatever else we think might help.


Just doing that would actually solve quite a few problems. I don't know why the fuck we haven't done it yet. Instead we are to focused on making online gambling illegal and making sure Roger Clemens didn't use steroids or the Patriots didn't cheat in the Super Bowl.


Our fucking representatives have their heads up their asses... both democrats and republicans.

the problem with the legalization thing is that law enforcement and prisons are a industry. If you legalize mary-j how many cops lose their jobs? How many in industries supplying those cops lose jobs? I guarantee these industries lobby to keep all this shit under the thumb of the government NOT for the good of the people but just to make $. We really do live in a shit hole.

Jstorm, I get your point but I think you could argue there are plenty of criminals out there to get. We would just have to allow the cops to go after real criminals rather than petty drug use.

Yeh, but catching today's criminals is more in the realm of accountants than traditional law enforcement... Hell, that's how they caught Al Capone when thousands of flatfoots couldn't...
