Gotta warn you guys against buying cheap shutter cords for D300.

This is a warning to those with Nikon cameras like the D300... do NOT buy the cheapo remote shutter cords on eBay from makers like Jueying.

These are incredibly cheap and will stop working easily. The first one I had lasted less than 200 pictures before the shutter button wouldn't respond anymore. Thinking it was a fluke because I have had excellent luck with cheap eBay Canon XT and 30D shutter cables, I ordered another one. This one died on me in the middle of a job after less than 200 uses again. It lasted less than a month, and generally a dead shutter cord means it will be impossible for you to get a shot otherwise due to vibration from your hand. Luckily I was able to up the ISO and widen my aperture to get by, plus it was at the end of the shoot, but it was not a pleasant surprise.

Now I guess I gotta go out and buy a real Nikon cable.

Some cheap ones (like the one you linked) are poorly constructed.

However there are some good eBay options; most notably, the Phottix Cleon II and the Phottix Plato.

Another vote for the Phottix as they work great on my D300 and D700 bodies.

FYI guys, I bought a Phottix C8 wireless remote from Hong Kong Supplies (seller name "etefore") on eBay a couple of weeks ago.

It arrived last night, packaged in an envelope with bubble wrap inside around the actual retail box. Inside the box was a note mentioning that because the item I had purchased was now discontinued, I was being sent the Phottix Cleon II instead. The advantages are 16 million channels as opposed to just 16, improved signal range (50-100m vs. 100m+) and better resistance to signal noise.

Needless to say I'm pretty pleased. Give them a try if you're looking for a wireless remote for your Nikon or Canon DSLR.

Edit: AT censors links to eBay, so I'll give the name of the eBay seller instead of a link.

yeah they are pretty good. I had a bad 40D grip (leaks power), and they replaced it for me. had to paid for 1 way shipping to HK but otherwise they are great.

Yes, my Phottix Plato arrived yesterday, and the seller (etefore AKA hksupplies) also sells the camera cables for the Plato separately for $8 shipped. Instead of buying two remotes for my D700 and D90, I just bought the Plato N8 (D700) version and bought an N10 cable (for the D90).

The Plato is a nice remote. I like that it uses AAA, because I have a million Eneloops lying around unused.
