Gotta Love Windows

It just told me Windows Explorer was a "virus" then explorer crashed. :disgust:

......... Although maybe I should go download Adaware..................

Sounds more like a problem with your virus scanner than with Windows.

Windows doesn't tell you anything's a virus; that's a job for a virus scanner.

Yeah i had DEP enabled, & it kept shutting down explorer.exe too.

Eventually i just set explorer.exe as an exception to DEP.

It was something to do with DEP??? and it led me to the Windows help site before crashing.

I've got Norton on here *shudders* but it was free from work (along with Office 🙂 )

Never had a problem. Must be a user problem.

No it's not a PEBKAC issue. I had actually left the machine alone for a couple of minutes after searching the HDs for pics.......... *(no not those kind of pics)

Band-Aid solution.

I know that.
However, since you're so knowledgeable, care to enlighten me on what i can do to fix the issue (which seems to be teh same as the OP's)?

Is it a legitamate problem or a screw up by windows? What normally invokes DEP?

Attempts to execute code out of the data segment.
Most likely done by trying to look at a video (including explorer preview of the video). A lot of codecs are bad this way.
Could also be the attempt to make a thumbnail of the video in explorer.

If a codec is that poorly written, it has no reason to be on my system.
