So a co-worker was having trouble with a New York state web site. He was filling out a particular form repeatedly and it just kept sending him back to the main site upon clicking submit.

We call the help desk for the site, and get the usual questions.

What browser are you using? - IE9 (Corporate PC)
(already tried clearing cookies and setting the site as trusted as suggested by the email helpdesk)..

Here comes the good part:

Him: ok, it must be a an issue with IE9
Me: well we tried the same steps on another computer with IE8 and got the same results
Him: oh you did, well maybe its just not going to work
Me: what if we tried another browser like Firefox?
Him(direct quote) "Oh that's a catastrophe! That's good for like going to Orbits and planning a trip, but that's about it"

Seriously??

so did you try FF or chrome as well?

Sounds like some funny HD guys.

I'd say try reseting IE settings in the advanced tab and if that doesn't work then try enabling more internets.

yeah i have a lot of people say to me "man, i feel so dumb. i am so sorry i called you and all the problem was i just had to restart it"

and i always tell them its fine. a lot better then actually having a problem! then i get "why does it do that?" and i always say "i dont know, it just does" but im really thinking "well, you leave it on or let it sleep for months on end without ever rebooting it... windows just isnt smart enough to keep running like that".

You sure that it's not the form that keeps redirecting you back to the main site? Some sites have forms that redirect you to another page after you completed filling the form and hit submit.

you're doing it wrong! my windows box is going on 4 months of uptime this round, and it was up months before that too! some boxes down at the office have uptime of 1400 days . . granted they're not running windows ;-)
