Gotta love gas stations

yesterday, I passed a gas station at 7:00AM. It was $2.01

I drove by again at 7:15AM, they were changing the signs to $2.09.

Same gas station at 3:00pm was BACK to $2.01.

When I went home at 8:30 PM.....it was $2.15.

WTF!!!

Sounds like they were trying to hit the rush hour crowd and make it up the other times of the day. Gas is still $2.35 around here 🙁

Gas is still alot more than that around here.

AFAIK, that's not price gouging...

You don't accuse the port authority for having higher on-peak toll charges, do you?

heh, i actually filled up for under $20 yesterday

Well unless you have a 10 gallon tank then I'm assuming you meant "topped off"

well, it was low, it wasn't completely empty. its about when i normally fill up.

A less than 5% fluctuation in one day at a single station when no shortage exists is hardly "gouging."

I'm sure the the phone monkey's at the AG get a good laugh from you.

They were probably adjusting their prices to compete with other local gas stations.

Here in NJ they aren't allowed to change their prices more than once in a day. Kind of keeps them honest.

(not using "honest" in the literal sense... it's a figure of speech)

(what I mean is, the gas stations are forced to offer gas at a competitive price, because if they price it too high it could hurt sales when their competitors price it lower)

I filled up the other day for like 2.24. I was doing better on gas than I thought too, I could have gone without it that day too. 9.6 or so gallons, I've got a 13.7 gallon tank, and averaged 25.4mpg that tank, and I had a 58 mile commute that day, so I could have waited, but I chose to be safe.

Yes, I figure out my MPG every time I fill up. I guess I'm weird like that.

jeez where the heck do you guys live? I'm still paying 2.75 for regular, and premium is at 3.10 for the stupid BMW. I hate California.

I do that, too. I almost ALWAYS fill my car, ut our minivan gets $10-$20 at a time, depending on price, need, etc. It is rare that the van gets filled up all at once because we don't (usually) drive long distances in it.

For the record, Sam's club near me was $2.229 yesterday when my wife filled up my tank. I actually saw it in the 2.189 range earlier this week in Baltimore city, though. It was dropping quickly for a couple of weeks, but now prices seem to have stabilized a bit. Still waiting for sub-$2 gas, though.
