it's really both ends huh. mb MS didn't have the bandwidth.

mine tests out much faster on the broadband test sites, but doesn't always max out on every download, but that should be expected would seem to me.

a 10Mb cable connection would do it in slightly more than 2 minutes. You either have crappy fios or the server was slow or capped.

how about other network traffic. it's not like i only have one PC connected to this fios connection. i have additional servers here serving up terminal services to a 12 client WAN network.

don't forget that FiOS is a tiered service with faster connections costing more. around here I have the choice of
5/2 , 15/2, 30/5 and since I'm on a tight budget, I go with the 5/2

I'm stuck with comcrap.

At least my work connection is nice. I downloaded a 300 meg file at 9mb/sec today.

^ his FIOS maybe, but not everyone's FIOS. And too bad OOL has crap for customer service. I switched away from them without regret, even if I have shitty DSL right now. They just finished the poles in my backyard for FIOS and it should be any week now. 20/5 for $49.95. OOL is good for one thing though - competition.. thanks for creating that tier pricing for us here. How's 129mb in 51 seconds sound?

actually, i checked my service. i am on the 5/2 tier. i rarely do heavy downloading, saw no reason to pay the extra $10.00 / month for 15/2. if it were 15/5 i'd pay extra but they don't offer that.

LOL, 3min?

If it is the other side slowing you down, why even bother posting a bragging thread? If you were getting like 2MB/s downloads, then yes, post away, but this is just lame. I get faster d/ls than that and I am only on cable.

Heh. Well, a decade ago, encoding a track to MP3 would tie-up a typical PC for 10 minutes so a 30 minute download in comparison might not be so bad. Plus it wasn't verboten in many (if any) countries and in any case there was no lawsuit happy enforcement by the industry to fret about (guess they were still fat on CD price-fixing back then).

If I had FIOS available to me, I think I'd cough up the $200/m for the 30/5 plan. I could do some amazing things with that kind of bandwidth. Especially with the upload. :) Unfortunately, all I have available to me is the craptastic 1.2M/256K DSL connection. :(

All you haters seem to forget it's FTTH. No more copper!

Glass ftw!
