I got pulled over a couple weeks ago for doing 42 mph in a 25 zone. The 25 zone is for about 2 blocks because there's a school there. I never even noticed it, but that's my bad. I just hope they'll let me plea it out and pay.

Good luck! Make sure you don't double park outside the courthouse.

Eh, 42 is not exactly going dangerously fast. I never even noticed the 25 MPH sign, nobody realistically drives that slowly. But still, I am wrong and am willing to pay the price. I just don't want the points!

If you're a good bulls**tter, you might get your fine reduced.

If you're a great bulls**tter, the police department will hire you on the spot. ;)

EDIT: I added a wink emoticon, so you guys can laugh it off and take the internet a little less seriously.

Kthxbye

i just noticed you are in NJ. is this your first time in the court? did you call the number or mail in the ticket saying you will be going to court? if not, then be prepared to wait umpteen hours for your "hearing" which will pretty much be another time to reschedule you for a later date. they want to inconvenience you as much as possible just to get you to pay the fine.

if you did all those steps and don't have representation, get ready to sit there and wait hours for people who have lawyers and proceed to have fun watching scum of the earth and all their problems

man, i hate traffic court! my court appearance was scheduled for 1pm and i wasn't even heard till about 6. at least i got the points taken off my stupid ticket

I'm back!

Apparently the court date that it says on the ticket, is not the actual court date, just the date you have to pay by if pleading guilty (it says "court date" in bold print).
They will send me a court date in the mail.

So you are not pleading guilty?

Pleading no contest? Asking for Traffic School?

dude, i told you so two posts above this one! i thought you did the dance before? the jersey police and court system is a big money making machine to inconvenience you and just get you to pay the fines. should you decide to go to court on the appointed date, they will intimidate you to pleading guilty, where you have to pretty much demand to speak to the prosecutor and they will finally cut you a deal. it takes even more hoops to even think of taking it to trial. they are a bunch of scum bags.

I will indeed plead guilty, but if I just plead guilty without a plea bargain I will get the points. I will talk to the prosecutor beforehand and try to plea bargain as is typically done. I was just not aware this this wasn't my cuort date.

I'm not sure how it works where you are, but in PA, you just plead guilty and show up in court. The only way you get the points dropped is to talk to the officer who gave you the ticket a few minutes before the hearing starts and ask if he'll reduce the ticket to lose the points.

All the hearings I have gone to it has just been me, the officer, and the judge... no prosecutor or anything like that. If you don't strike a deal before the hearing starts you're pretty much screwed.

I've never seen the officer in court. The prosecutor pleads the case for him. If you plead not guilty, they give you a new court date and officer shows up. That's how it works in my neck of the woods.

I have a school zone about a mile or two from my house. There is a school that sits 200 yards off the road. In my county public schools are not "assigned" meaning parents can pick which school their kids go to. Reguardless of where your kids go to school, no one walks, everyone gets to ride the bus. The stupid school zone is on every day though, despite the fact that there are NEVER any kids by the road, or within 200 yards of the road. They shut down two lanes every day, slow traffic to 15 mph (normally 55) from 2PM - 4PM. School gets out at 2:30PM. The busses roll out at 2:45. Why the long period? I have no idea. Why have a school zone at all? No one knows. Maybe to create revenue for tickets. It's retarded.
