Gotta 2000+ on msi kt4vl, what to expect on OC?

well I can't take it anymore, I started running SETI@home and was wondering if I can take my 2000+ up to a 166fsb to sync with my memory, my proc is locked so multiplier will stay automatic at 12.5, I ran it up to 144 for a 1.8Ghz but it still showed as a 2000+ on startup. While in the bios it says it's currently running that fsb, but shouldn't it change to an xp 2200+ on the startup screen? or is that dependant on the multiplier being set to 13.5x with fsb 133?
btw I'm running a retail with the retail hsf, 56 degrees idle up to like 67-69 degrees loaded.

It seems to be dependant on what the multiplyer is set at, as to what it shows the cpu as during start up

put it at 166 mhz and see what it will do..if it won't post then unlock the voltage so you can jack it up a bit.

12.5 x 166 is gonna be 2075MHz, definately out of range without exotic cooling and big volts. More than likely it is an AGOIA core, so 1800-1850MHz will be the norm, maybe 1900MHz with more volts and very good air-cooling. If you wanna rock at a high fsb speed, you're gonna have to unlock it. As far as the bios reading, if your fsb speed is detected at 144MHz then you are definately overclocked. A bios update will more than likely get the boot up screen to read the cpu speed accurately.

It worked, but it actually slowed down, I just set my memory to sync w/proc @ 266 cl2 instead of 333 cl2.5 with everything set as agressivly as possible, seems to be giving me a little increase over the oc running mem at 333, plus my proc will probably last longer.

On my xp2000+, it took 1.775 volts to make 147 fsb. It doesn't seem as though I'll be able to up the fsb without dropping the multiplier. I agree with Rogue1979, as everything he said has stood true for my cpu. You may get better results with yours(i hope you do), but you will need to replace your hsf to be able to turn up the volts. My PAL8045 keeps me at 36c under full load, I'm impressed. Hope I helped a little, and good luck.

u can unlock the fsb speed cause i have an amd 1800+. its called a throughbred procosser if u did. i have an 1800+ clocked at 172mhz fsb

I think what you meant to say is that you can change the multiplier because you have a t-bred. The 2000+ is not a tbred(though there may be some out there somewhere...who knows?).

everytime I change the multiplier no matter how small a change the system won't boot, I have to reset the bios through the cmos jumper. I was told this was due to a "mulitplier-locked" proc.
