Maybe too quick. My read from Gorath on GothicDot and other German sources seems to indicate that this game is going to be a bugfest when it's first released. It seems JoWood is in a rush to get it out.

At least it'll hit the US market after a patch or two.

Hopefully, it'll come to the United States quicker than Gothic 1 and 2 did.

There are a few UK sites that deliver to USA and Canada if you can't wait ,like here,and here .

For UK members,cheapest I have seen it for is £17.98 inc free delivery from here .

are there any disadvantages to having an English Game vs. an American one?

apoppin: Price difference mainly,I have ordered US games from the UK and they always play fine in the past on my PC.

Also I believe and have read that the US tend to be more strict on blood content then European versions of some games,hence sometimes they get a milder version(lesser blood content).

Yeah, the UK/EU versions are almost always censorship-free. If Gothic 3 is like 2, then there will probably be prostitutes. I wonder if that'll get cut from the US version.

Only in certain parts of Europe I'd imagine. It's against the law to play games with red blood in Germany, IIRC. If it's not that country then it's another similar one... France maybe.

Gothic 3 Interview@FiringSquad .

There are many vast improvements in Gothic 3 from the previous installment including an all-new graphics engine, a completely revamped combat system, and a much-larger streaming world where gameplay is not interrupted by loading screens.

All of these items were top priorities in development, but there are tons of smaller improvements that fans will love in addition to the major revisions mentioned here.

While they may look similar, Gothic is not at all like TES. I would say it's more like an adventure game than anything else, with action-oriented combat relying on twitch skill, and much less emphasis (if any) on stats and rolls. Combat can be quite challenging and hit-and-run tactics are usually required - much of the time you'll just be running for your life. The characters and story are more fleshed-out than anything you'll find in TES - very detailed world where every piece is hand-done, no copy and paste tiles (at least not in 1 and 2). It just has a totally different vibe to it that TES - some people love it, others not so much.

i don't think you have played TES:IV Oblivion . . . you are describing IT's style of fighting . . . it is TOTALLY fps [nothing at all like KotOR's] . . . and i would say oblivion is FAR more fantasy "adventure" than "rpg". :p

you do get to 'pause' the action to change spells and weapons and some NPCs level with you . . . but then it is also like Thief series/DE / and SS --hybred games.

KotOR's style of fighting is much more like the 'dice' rolls of the original D&D based games - very RPG with a "real party" interaction. Oblivion has none of this. :p

Oblivion ended up feeling very much like Gothic 2 to me. Just a bit of background-- I never played Gothic 1 nor any of TES prior. When Oblivion developers were touting radiant AI, I was thinking that I had just seen that already in G2. Same with the combat. I prefer some of the gameplay elements of G2 vs Ob. Such as being able to choose only one Guild (not all). The fact that my thief/assassin was able to rise to the top of the Mage's Guild in Ob without having anything higher than a 10 in any of the core magic skills is silly (yes, there are mods that fix this).

I also prefer the G2 method for leveling. To me, the idea of an RPG is that I can perform actions that give me some kind of reward so that I can advance my character as I choose. In Ob, I feel that I am forced to play a certain way in order to increase certain skills. I like that Ob offered Trainers, but I like Gothic's use of Trainers better. I also liked how there were places in Gothic that I just flat-out needed to avoid, knowing I was nowhere near strong enough. Whereas in Ob, everything is my level (yeah, mods to fix this too). I hear G3 may have some encounters that have the same level as the player.

Some news on North American version(from RPGDOT.COM).

We´ve exchanged several emails with Aspyr to clear up some rumors and misunderstandings circulating about the North American Gothic 3. The official site has also been updated. Here´s the summary:

* Release date
The date given on Aspyr´s site (Nov 13th) is not final: "We have not made an announcement on an official release date. The date you see on our site is a good bookmark though. As soon as we can lock down an official date we'll let you know."
* ESRB rating
"The ESRB gave the U.S. version of Gothic 3 a Teen (T) rating this week. A T rating clears Gothic 3 as suitable for ages 13 and older." (source: Gothic3.Aspyr.com)
* Packaging & medium
The game will ship on DVD only "in an Amaray DVD case with a wrap that includes a flap."
* Collector´s Edition
Not planned.
* System requirements
The system requirements have been posted on the official site. Link see above.
* Differences US <-> UK versions
o Gameplay: "There will only be one version of Gothic 3 worldwide. I can't stress that enough. One version.[...]In-game content is identical."
o Credits:
o Will be modified to include Aspyr. Intro: "I believe our intro movie will have some minor technical tweaks (taking advantage of the extra time), but this will be minor. Content of the movie will be the same. And obviously the intro movie does not affect gameplay."
* Patches:
Here´s the full quote, since this sems to be main reason for the delay:
"It is true that the US version will ship later than the UK version. As such, the US version will ship with any updates and fixes available from the first Gothic 3 patch that will be released. Instead of downloading the first patch like the European gamers, US gamers will already have the updates in their retail copy when it ships. This bit of detail may be causing the confusion and may be why some people think the US version will be "different." "
* Translation and voice overs
"The UK and US versions will have the same translation and voice overs."
.

Any of our friends across the pond getting this game this Friday the 13th when it is released?

Please let us know if you are, so you can report here and tell us how it is. :)

Some people already have an early copy and are playing now, seems buggy as hell.
But there is supposed to be an official patch released on the 13th to fix a bunch of stuff.

Anyone playing this let us know what you think!

We have to wait till Nov 13th :p

The first update for Gothic 3 is ready. We are just downloading the 60 MB file from the press server and will upload it to RPGDot then, so it will be available here in approx. 1 - 2 hours.

No. It's difficult to imagine how they would even implement multiplayer or coop quite honestly. I doubt that anybody who's played the previous Gothics and liked them is at all concerned about lack of MP - they're interested in the solid story and immersion.

I'm going to hold off until I can get a G80 card, and wait for a few patches in the meantime.

Is the game 1st Person only or can you switch to 3rd person? I couldn't find that on their website.
