The Dark Knight Rises was awful as a Batman movie. It completely removed what the Batman character was. He takes 8 years off because his GF died? Wow! Yeah, Batman would do that! I mean, he didn't become Batman because his parents died, after all. Oh, and only one person (an orphan who got a special look) could figure out that a guy running around the city in super expensive shit was the only guy in the city who could afford to throw away super expensive shit? Let's not even bring up how Talia's ultimate plot for revenge involved building an empire, taking over Wayne's company, blowing him, and then using some special reactor to destroy the city. A couple million dollars and a dirty bomb would have done the trick, without getting the wad in her mouth. "Oh, my biggest enemy, you killed my father! So, in order to extract revenge, I am going to take a literal shot in the mouth from you! Got you good Batman!"

The other two were fine, but that third was terrible.
Anne Hathaway was the only reason to watch that movie IMHO.

I thought the The Knight Rises showed Bruce retiring because he was charged with murder and would be hunted down. Plus his injuries were too severe to keep going on a constant basis?

If, he retired because he was going to be hunted down, why would they even have the fucking line when Gordon's kid asks why they are chasing him "because, he can take it." Well, obviously, he couldn't take. Perhaps, it was just another Batman riddle. Batman gave up because Rachael died. A guy who, due to this parents being murdered, takes on the role of sole vigilante, trying to save Gotham from the shithole it had become, quits because a girl who might have gone out with him, dies. Batman wouldn't do that. EVER.

City is about to 'asplode, Gordon is concerned nobody will know who saved it! Rather than say, in his regular fucking voice. "Dude, I'm Bruce Wayne. Even Orphan Annie could figure that shit out," he says "Riddle me this Gordon! Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" Come on now.

he gave up because the city is now safe and relatively crime free. That's why in the beginning of DKR in the wayne mansion party, the main police dude said "it's peace time, we don't need a war hero"

That was another thing that bothered me, though. Since when is Gotham ever crime free? In the comics Gotham's basically a shithole as far as crime goes. I know the movies aren't the comics, but the movie didn't really stick very close at all to the source material. I'm fine with them deviating some otherwise there's no point in making new movies/shows/cartoons or whatever else, but DKR changed Gotham and Wayne/Batman so much that they only really had the names in common, IMO.

if Gotham is always not crime-free. then what has Batman accomplished?

/philosoraptor

He's saved some lives. It's a basic tenet of every crime-fighter's story, their work is never done. With the exception of crime-fighters who are only in it to take down a specific person or organization. Of course I can't think of any examples now (lol) but any of the crime fighters who set themselves against all crime in a location never finish the work.

Just got around to watching this on Hulu.

Wouldn't all these villains end up being too old by the time Bruce grows up?

Save for Catwoman (she's like what, 13?) and The Penguin (who seems to be treated as younger than the actor is), it would seem that way (even both of those would still be his senior by a ways, however).

I also finally watched it, and I've seen good series come from worse pilots, so I'll give it a chance. I do think they rushed too many characters in at once, at least as far as making very sure you knew who was who.

If they're in their 20's, and batman appears 20 years from now, which would put them in the 40-50 range, so that's about right. I always imagined the Batman that we see in his prime to be around 35-40, and the Joker to be in his mid 40's.

Saw the pilot. While it wasn't bad, I don't think it was good either. They tried to cram way too much stuff into that one episode. It was basically rushed scene after rushed scene, heck even the up high building fly-by transitions felt rushed. This show needs HBO/Netflix, it's not going to be any good on FOX or any other network/cable TV channel. On HBO/Netflix they could really delve into the corrupt state that Gotham was in, and also take their time introducing the setting and building a real story.

It felt like the pilot was directed by an overexcited teenager who was trying to tell the whole backstory in one breath.

Maybe I was just in a good mood tonight but I thought the second episode was much better. It felt a lot less cluttered and was a bit more fun. Show still grinds to a complete halt whenever they inject the Wayne stuff though. I'll keep watching for now.

Skipped it, but I saw a minute of Cat Woman talking and she sounds pre-pubescent.

IRL I read she was 13 or 14. So, if the show doesn't tank ASAP, she might be stuck dealing with all of it, not just her voice, in the public eye :\. If she doesn't quickly become a nobody, hope that she's the one that wants to be well-known, and her parents are uncomfortable with it, but supportive; else we could be seeing the beginnings of a future B-/C-/D-lister train wreck.

I know, I know, I'm too much of an optimist. :awe:

Thing that gets me is. How they have these some old looking environments, clothing etc... Giving aperance of an older timeline, yet inject it with some modern or near modern items.
