I received a rejected credit application today... but it wasn't me for applied for the credit. Someone unknown person used my address as the address. It was also under someone else's name

What can I do??

Call one of the major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax or Experian) and place a fraud alert on your account. Your next step should be to call your bank and/or credit card companies and find out if there have been any unauthorized charges/withdrawals. Then, you should call your local police department and file a fraud report. You'll probably be able to do it all over the phone.

Quick, give me your name, address, and bank account number and I'll verify that everything is in order for you, free of charge. 😀

You guys are overreacting just a bit. If it is simply his ADDRESS that is there, it seems like the most likely scenario is that someone either:

1) Had crappy handwriting and was misunderstood
2) Transposed the characters when entering the data

But you should try to get to the bottom of it and see what happened. Just using your ADDRESS doesn't seem like a huge cause for alarm (although definitely a warning flag) -- if they used your NAME or your SS number it would be a whole different story.

Generally, you need a SSN anytime you apply for any sort of credit line, whether it's a credit card, car loan, mortgage, store credit, etc. Hopefully the guy doesn't know his SSN, but it's never a good idea to sit around and wait until something happens.

Check the address on the envelope. You sure it's your address?

I swear my mailman is on crack. I've recieved like four pieces of mail that were supposed to be delivered to some place in Stockton, CA. I live in San Jose, CA. The street names weren't even the same.

I checked my credit report and my mothers. Nothing suspicious. Then I looked on yahoo people search for this person's name. It gave me a direct match with an address. This place is somewhat close to my house but in a ghetto neighborhood. Should I contact the police??

Ok, it's really simple, pretty much everyone here seems overly paranoid. Here is what you need to do:

1. Get the unopened envelope.(I assume you didn't open it as it isn't addressed to you)
2. Get a pen
3. Circle the address and write next to it "Individual does not live at this location"
4. Place back into mail box to be returned to sender

Haven't you ever recieved anything before at the wrong address? It's not that difficult. Also, most likely the reason the credit was rejected is because during the credit check the address didn't line up with their reported living address as yours evidently was listed.
