I dislike fullscreen movies but I found that particular movie to be marginal at best. It's not one I would want to see more than once.

now that i have an HD tv I can't stand watching anything in 4:3. it annoys me way more than watching widescreen movies did back on my full screen tv. i'm not sure why.

I just think that movies in general are on the rise, and the wider 2.35:1 wide screen format is appealing to film makers in giving a more epic feel to the movie which can be an advantage in competition.

It's a shame that so many people can't get over the bars displayed in the majority of widescreen movies. I hate the full screen format!

I remember hearing about some chip or something that will allow the screen to adjust to widescreen. I think I saw it on InHD or something. Haven't heard anything since.

Full screen DVDs should simply not exist. They make no sense.

For someone who just has to have the entire screen full they can use the DVD player to zoom.

I am certainly annoyed by 4:3 format especially on the HD channels. I always liked widescreen movies on my regular TV though b/c you get the entire picture not what some editing guys decided would be the best part of the frame.

Not everybody has money for a nice television. A large portion of people are using a 25" or smaller standard definition 4:3 television. Watching a widescreen movie on a television like that would be murder on the eyes. That is why full screen exists.

The problem is that fullscreen isn't a simple zoom. It's a crop that attempts to cut out as little of the picture that's important as possible.

Unless the OAR is actually 4:3.

I've always liked fullscreen over widescreen because of those bars, but after getting a widescreen monitor and HDTV, I realized what I was missing out.

Oh for fvcks sake Howard, you should know me better. ;)

Of course if 4:3 is the OAR, but for pretty much every recent movie made, that isn't the case. Most DVD releases (new ones anyway) are of recent movies.

:p

And most fullscreen releases are not of 4:3 OAR material either.

What is the proper format, then? The aspect ratio depends on the film.
1.85:1 is great for action films and 2.35:1 is great for dramatic, epic films. 1.78:1 is fine for television shows, but it's not wide enough for me.

why is 1.85:1 great for action and not for dramas? why is 2.35:1 great for dramas and not action?

btw, widescreen FTW.
V for Vendetta FTW.

Are you serious?

Well, aside from the fight scene in the beginning and the fight scene near the end, nothing else is worth watching. Unless you Natalie Portman looking anorexic.

So I guess the terrorist/freedom-fighter aspect and revenge story wasn't compelling enough for you to follow? Hell, I watch 'Dude, Where's My Car?' movies too, but if you can't appreciate this adaptation other then for its fight scenes then I don't know what to tell ya.
