Got two tickets for the same thing

Don't they give you some time to fix it?
I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop about my inspection sticker. It's recently out.
Well my speedometer stopped working, and I have another in the mail, on the way, so that I can get my inspection. Well I get pulled over by another motorcycle cop, and he writes me the same ticket. After I told him, in a joking manner, that I just got that ticket, and that I will have it fixed and will go to the court within the alotted timeframe.
He just kept writing. Never missed a beat. What's the point? I just show I got it done, and that is it. There isn't a big fine or anything.

One of the things you tell them when they pull you over (and BEFORE they start writing) is "I already got a fix-it ticket, and the new part is in the mail"

The only time I got a notice to fix something, it was just a warning for a busted headlight.

Hey, I guess you just show them both tickets...they don't fine you if you fix it, right?

I did. He just kept asking me things, like where I work, and what not. I told him I have the ticket in my glove box. He didn't care. It was kind of frustrating.

I got pulled over twice on one road trip for having a headlight out. The second time I got pulled over, I just said "Is this about the headlight, sir?"
He said "Yes," and I showed him the ticket I had just gotten a couple days ago and he let me on my merry way.

Everyone Ive talked to said the purpose in a motorcycle cops life is to write tickets for traffic violations.
I have heard that patrol car cops think that motorcycle cops are all dicks.

I know quite a few sheriff's deputies and State Troppers, and some of them have said the same.

you lose. you are not supposed to ride it until you fixed the problem. obviously its not fixed otherwise you wouldnt have gotten a ticket.
pay up. you cant fight it. no judge will side with you.

... I've seen many cases dismissed because the defendant proved that he had taken action to correct the problem, even if it had not been fully completed.

Reggae, what if the part is in the mail? Or takes some time to be installed? Maybe the OP was on his way to work-- somewhere he HAS to go?

I think he has quite a case given the situation.

Have you ever looked on the back of a ticket? There are ways to fight mechanical, registration, license and insurance violations but never an inspection violation. You may take it to court, you may think he has quite a case, but most judges will not dismiss the matter.

somewhere someone HAS to go is all relative. if he HAS to go, why not take public transportation or call a cab?
