Got two speeding tickets within a week

Had a pretty rough Christmas break. Got one ticket on my way to last final, hit by airplane going 85 in 65. Next day I rear end someone in traffic (although it was slow, so no dent, just paint smudge, didn't go to insurance). Then a week later on way back home from Christmas I got a ticket for 80 in a 70.

Before this my record was completely clean. One red light ticket 4 years ago that I took traffic school for.

Both tickets are in California and different counties. I figure go to Arraignment for both to see if I can get ticket costs down. Between 2k payment at school, loosing 50% of my hours at work and 2 traffic tickets I might get sympathy (or not). But should I mention subsequent ticket at first arraignment or avoid the topic. Then at second arraignment do you think they'll let me do traffic school for both tickets?

Stupid speeding, now its back to the speed limit, these things are expensive!

It really sucks when you are of an age where your brains reside between your legs. ;)

You deserve points. Heck, you should have your license taken away for driving like that. And you want to avoid points???

I searched around a little before posting. I almost was tempted to bump the plane ticket post back up with a "I got one!" comment.

Do all of us a favor and voluntarily give up your license to avoid the points. You're too stupid to be allowed on the roads.

One choice is to go to court and plead guilty to both and beg that one ticket gets reduced and the points dropped. Then you take traffic school for the other one and just pay both the fines.

Just pay your "driving tax" and move on.

I have had 2 speeding tickets in 3 days before.

This is what I was hoping for. I've never know anyone to be able to do this, or if judges will allow it.

Is a plea bargain probable? Though that'll be more expensive up front.

Nope, just self-righteous responses from people who don't get 2 speeding tickets and an at-fault accident in one freaking week. OP is a complete asshat that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a steering wheel. Many people have been driving for longer than the OP has been alive and have not racked up that many incidents.

I couldn't care less about relatively moderate speeding like that, but I'd be pissed if somebody damaged my car.

It sucks but happens in traffic, I've got an hour commute in bumper to bumper traffic each day and this is first trouble so far. I was expecting the guy behind me to hit me too and her to hit the guy in front, it must have been inches between me and guy behind. Can only stop so fast. :(

which is why you leave a reasonable space between you and the car in front of you dumbass.

I love it, OP gets tickets for speeding and people shit all over him yet all these people shitting on him speed themselves. Is it because he got caught? I remember a thread a few days ago complaining about people going slow in the fast lane (IE: the speed limit) and everyone chimed in how they hate people who don't speed on the freeway too.

fucking hypocrites

Just suck it up and slow down.

EDIT: the above is not meant in a "holier than thou" way, but a "been there, done that" way. Exercise just a little bit of judgment instead of none at all, and your license will thank you for it.

I speed all the time. I'm not a hypocrite though, as I wouldn't come here whining and begging for help in beating the ticket.

Now a some what useful comment . . .

The answer is "no". In CA, it's 18 months between traffic school eligibility. If you get tickets back to back (like I did twice when I was younger and much dumber), you're out of luck on at least one of them. Oh, and if you don't already know, the tickets themselves are fairly cheap when compared to what you will now pay in additional car insurance premiums for the next three years.

Sorry, dude. I've been there and it sucks. Drive better. When you feel like speeding, ask yourself if the time you save by speeding is worth the cost of the ticket and traffic school not to mention the time that you will lose while you get pulled over and the cop writes you up. I won't say I never speed, but I speed a whole lot less than I use to.

80 in a 70? Wow. Someone must have had it out for you. Most people go ~90 in those areas around here.
