Got told that my weight was unhealthy...

I was sitting at work just before lunch break today and this woman I work with passes by, "I never see you leaving for lunch, do you just eat it in here?"

I replied that I don't take lunch since I generally only eat one meal a day anyway, I might as well cram 10 hours of work into a day instead of robbing myself of an hour of pay.

Anyway, she procedes to tell me that I should eat more because "it's not healthy". Now, I'm 6'0'' and about 145 pounds, pretty skinny but not bad and I can throw 50 pound bags of fertilizer or topsoil around when I do yardwork just fine, and it was all I could do to keep myself from asking this woman if she thought it was healthier to be 5'6" and 250-300 pounds like she is or to have my weight.

I mean seriously, since when do fat people get to lecture anyone about being at an unhealthy weight? It's just absurd.

You should have asked her to spare you one of her Big Macs on her way back from the lard pit.

That is kind of unhealthy. Eating one meal a day, that is. Doubtful that you can get everything you need out of it.

Anyhow, since she commented on your eating habits, feel free to comment on hers. You'd probably do her more good.

you should eat more than once. your body thinks you're starving.

I was 6' and 150 pounds when I was in high school, but I was running between 80 and 110 miles a week. Most people would have considered me anorexic. Truth be told I was probably consuming between 3000 and 3500 calories a day.

If you aren't active, and you are only eating one meal a day, then I'd tend to agree with your coworker that you are unhealthy in your eating habits and probably robbing yourself of proper nutritional needs.

Damn you're skinny I'm 5'6" and 183 lbs and I'm only 20 lbs overweight - I have a very dense build: Scottish and Mexican together make a very dense short person. Anyway, slap the b!tch and tell her that she can go suck a fat one.

the proper response would of been.. 'dont you think you're eating too much?' and just ignore the rest of what she says. you are skinny though and one meal isnt really healthy.. but hey, easier to put on weight then lose it..

I'd rather be skinny than a fat f*ck. Next time she says something to you, ask her, "yeah i know, can you spare me a big mac? You seem to be getting plenty."

Perception of skinny/fat is cultural and relative. My friend lived in Japan for a year, when he came back, it seemed like he was surrouned by fatasses. Seems like obesity in the US is getting to the point where skinny people are considered abnormal by the oceans of fatasses rolling around.

Bah. I haven't been sick in the last 6 or 7 years. It's not like I'm that much of a bean pole either. I wear a 32 inch waist (and no, the pants don't sag).

And I've tried everything to put on weight. In college I drank a half-gallon of whole milk a day and basically went around stuffed full of food (good stuff like chicken and such, not snacks) all the time (which is friggin' miserable). My weight ballooned all the way up to 145 pounds (yup, even when trying the most I could gain was 5 pounds) and I felt over-full all the time. I finally said fvck it and decided that I'd just eat when I was hungry and leave it at that.

Physicals are always passed with flying colors. Low BP and everything. If I were tired or having trouble concentrating I'd say there was something wrong, but I feel great and have no looming health issues according to doctors.

Family history too. My grandfather was 6'2" and 120 pounds when he graduated from HS.

I eat one meal a day too, however, I am a bit heavier and taller than you ... (275 pounds, 6 food 1 inch ...trying to knock a bit of the weight off by biking)

I'll sell you like ... 25 pounds .... I'll even cover the cost of shipping :)

Ignore her comments, sure one meal per day may not be healthy in her eyes, but if it works for you, then congrats...

Edit ... one other note ... my roomate in college was 6 foot 4 inches, and he weighed no more than 150 pounds ... he never had any health problems ... if you are comfortable with your weight, whe cares what anyone else says.

He's pretty skinny, yeah, but not unhealthily so. (We're friends in real life.)

I have the same eating patterns, one main meal a day, and the doctors have never told me to work on gaining weight. I've been told often to work out more, but never told to eat more or gain wait. (5'6", 110 lbs) I'm in close touch with my docs for an unrelated health prob. If they wanted me to gain weight, they'd have ample opportunity to tell me.

It's just my build, and the fact that most people ARE overweight, so being built naturally thin makes you seem unaturally and unhealthily skinny.

Ok, get a box of twinkies. Everytime someone like this comes by the office and says something toss a twinkie out the door. Tell her to fetch.

there's this guy in my weight training class during my junior highschool year. He was about 6', and he weighed 110. He was bare bones skinny!
During the middle of the year, we had to do this body fat percentage test by using this specialized scale that calculates it.
When he did the test, the machine froze up for a few seconds, and returned.. ERROR!
HAHAHA I thought I was skinny at that time, 5'5 95lbs, and I got 8% body fat.
Now I'm 5'6 120lbs. Going out to eat fast food a lot really helps :)

eh. my bf's 6'1-2 and is about 150 lbs. he'd like to gain another 20 to round himself out but he can't seem to gain the weight (and won't start eating garbage to do so, he was trying protein for a while.)

he doesn't look anorexic but he is thin.

as long as you are healthy, strong, and eat well (which means you may have to change from one meal a day to either several small balanced meals or at least add in another meal. you may be depriving your body and it's already in starvation mode.) you should be ok. my bf's fine for the most part.
