Got this pc and have some questions.

Alright I was at this second hand store to see if they had any old video game systems. I want an Atari 2600 damn it! Mine died a long ass time ago in our old house the closet leaked right on it! ....But uh anyways.....

This system is gone! However scroll down to read about a system I found for $150
They have a Athlon XP 1ghz or more can't recall with 540 megs of memory? Thats what XP says and either three hard drives or one split up with a total amout of 80 gigs with an ALL-IN-WONDER card with either 32 or 64mb of video memory that has a ant/cable in and an input in and s-video out....I think windows said it was a radeon? It had a default drivers. Uh a 56k modem, networking card and dvd rom drive with a 17 inch monitor and basic mouse and keyboard. This would be used for internet and maybe some basic ol games. LOL!

What do you think? Awesome deal or a simliar system can be built for the price?

I should open it up and see what kinda card it really is and what not....But the cheapest all in wonder is like $80 and the price of the cpu and mobo and XP....Hmmm....

What do you all think? Pass it up or snag it and play with it.

If you have a use for it, go for it.

A 17" monitor is going to be $50 on its own, right?

So $150 for the rest of it.

If it includes a legal XP copy with the deal, there's another $75 or whatever that costs.

$75 for a halfway decent computer isn't a bad deal.

run as fast as you can from that forest...run forest.....

old technology..wouldnt touch it!! plain and simple...probably even has windows version3.0 on it instead if win95...lolol

"Thats what XP says" <-- leads me to think that it is working and has XP running on it?

Damn. I wish I could find something like that. It's about 33% faster than my wife's computer, and she actually uses hers for photoshop and stuff. hehehehe I'd grab it, at the very least for a linux box or something.

Yes XP is on it. I'd have to get a program to give me the product key thats on it and then register it. Plus xp with sp2 is like $42 online.

Anyways im thinking about it because budget desktops at wal-mart go for $300-$400 and the specs are lower on those. Plus my mom needs a pc for basic fuctions like surfing online. Plus im sure XP vista will have support for 32 bit cpus? Then again I could pick up a socket 754 64bit cpu to pop in....So it seems to be a basic home use pc thats slighty upgradable 🙂

$299 all day long for a E-Machines Sempron 3100+, 256meg RAM, 100 gig hd w/17 monitor and a printer AR at CC, OD or BB. OD has the least no. of rebates.

I have one. Delete all the preloaded software and add another 512 ram for >30 and it screams pretty good. Not too great for games but what the heck, it's new and it's fast.

DOwnside is $300 in rebates but that's the way they want to play the game. Make sure you fill out the rebate forms well and make copies. Seal copies in an envelope and send it back to yourself. Gives you a postmark.

Do'h!

Someone beat me to it. Wonder if my friend took my advice for once and got it? Because he was looking before running into budget issues. Then I decided it was a pretty sweet deal!

Hmmm....But I was on campus and checked out the bulletin walls and someone is selling a Pentium 4 system for $200. I'm waiting for a call back to find out whats included and the exact specs. The person is also selling a bunch of other things. Must need to pay the rent or somthing 😉

Athlon XPs start at 1.33 GHz. If it's 1 GHz, then it's probably an Athlon "Thunderbird."

I'm pretty sure that's not possible. You should check that out.

If it's a real Athlon XP with 512 MB RAM and a video capture card, go ahead and grab it. It's not an *amazing* deal, but you could probably make money selling all the components on Ebay. Make sure you figure out how much RAM it has, first, though. Anything less than 512MB, and I don't think it'd be worth $200.

I don't think so. If you sell it at a garage sale, it's not going to go for more than $20. Selling it to a local retailer would get you even less. On Ebay, you'd have to charge at least $15 shipping (CRTs are heavy), leaving $35 for you if the buyer pays $50--which he/she probably won't, anyway. No, I wouldn't count on anything more than $30--and that's if it's in good condition.

Maybe. A lot of resale systems only include the OS pre-installed. That means you can't re-install the OS, and you can't sell it separately. Other copies are integrated with the system drivers (like on HP recovery discs).

$75 for a halfway decent computer isn't a bad deal.

It's more like $165, unless you have that Windows XP installation disc and COA.

Dah! No people....What do you think of this system.

Definitely pass. You couldn't get $150 for it or its components on Ebay, and it's probably not useful to you as is. A P4-1.6 is just too old.

1. Sorry, I don't shop for used 17" CRTs much. I didn't know there were a plethora of sub $30 to be had.
*looks on ebay*
Uhhh... seems like most are going for $40 or $50 shipped? 😕

2. I said if it includes. If this was a 1ghz tbird or whatever, it might not have had XP on it originally. So, seller includes a copy of XP they bought? Maybe the computer came with an XP license and CD that is being sold?
So, in summary: if

3. See #1, #2

Well buy it if your on a budget and all your going to use it for is basic email, office apps and internet surfing. It will be a long while before you need something faster for basic stuff. Don't even think that this will run modern games though.

Thats the thing were on a budget and like I said its main use is internet and apps.

Man I should have snagged that Athlon XP pc. With the AIW card and HDD space also with the memory and XP....

But oh well gonna get the P4 and make slight upgrades to it.

Got it. Not to shabby. They made it and its brand new.

The guy I got it from built it for his girl friend but his dad died and he got a new pc and gave her his old pc and put it up for sale.

Now I need to go and price each part and see how much I saved....But it should make a good desktop. I plan to add some more memory to make it 512mb or maybe a gig and get a video card that can handle Roller Coaster Tycoon III and Sims 2. Since my mom likes those kind of games.

So whatca think? Did I get a good deal? I was using a AMD K6-2 500mhz with 128megs of memory and 30 gig WD HDD that the power supply died and then I moved to a Pentium II 400mhz with 340 megs of memory and a 4 gig SCSI with the 30 gig for extra space and was givin a pc thats a AMD K6-2 400mhz with 128 mb that I added my 128mb from my other pc to make it 256mb with a 4gig hard drive I tossed for my 30 gig WD HDD that I have been using for a long time and its still going....It also came with a linksys network card and wifi. So that's not a bad. I'll put that into the pc I got now. But as you can tell I haven't been running the greatest. But me and my mom don't have the budget to keep upgrading.

So yeah....

I moved the mobo in a different case. They put some black foam stuff on the bottom of the mobo? Is that normal? I removed it since the case has good air flow. Its black celifain. I think its used to help protect it when shipping. No where in the manual does it say to use it.

Anyways the system runs great. However xp says it needs some usb driver? i have 6 usb ports. Two in the front and i tested the front ones. I dunno if drivers are needed for two or what? I need to goto the mobo site and download the software updates....
