Got this in an email. Seems like a scam to me.

I got a few red flags from this.
1. It says to pay the amount in ANY currency.
2. It makes no mention of my name, or the order number.

Now it looks legit considering I just bought something yesterday and it doesn't seem like a 419 scam. But why would the amounts be off by so much? The Paypal link is an authentic one that goes to https://www.paypal.com (both in Opera and FF).

Legit for sure. In fact, I'd PayPal him double the amount just to be safe. He might need your SSN too, so make sure you put it in the comment box along with your mother's maiden name.

lol @ hjo3 😛

Looks like a scam. Of course the link points to the real paypal site, he wants you to go to the real paypal site and send him real payment 😉 When in doubt call up the place where you purchased the item and ask, or forward the email to the site and ask if it's legit (doubtful).

just email them and ask them why they aren't being professional enough to reference your order number.

It's probably legit, but verify first. The amounts not matching needs to be straightened out anyway.

That's true, but the OP just ordered something from the site, expected an email from the seller, and then received the email in question the next day, from a <companyname>-payments email address.

Not likely to be a scam.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. It's just that the amounts don't add up, and that no order number is referenced. None of the items that I ordered shows up in the email so in one sense it's highly suspicious, but I AM expecting some kind of email from the seller shortly.

Book never arrived,
Bookseller: cheapestbooks
J Bhatia

San Jose, CA,
would not answer repeated request for information. I wrote to Abebooks a letter and next day they took the information about my order from their site. Be careful with this site!!!

Another problem is that that's not the guy I bought from. I bought from worldbookservice... this is getting deeper.
