LOL! That brought back some memories. I just happen to have my Amiga 500 manual sitting right here with the Fat Agnus Block Diagram on it. Hell if I know what any of it means though.

And trust me, anytime there are performance issues, it's always us developers who get blamed. Even when we try to shift the blame to the network or database or server hardware people still end up blaming us.

Repeat after me.

It is NOT a network problem

🙂

I'll bet you $20 someone besides the Pats win. I'll even give you 2:1 odds. Game?

You're on. I feel bad though, it's like taking candy from a baby!

But what if it is? Admins are THE HARDEST people to convince when you're sure its not an application problem. I went four months debugging problems that turned out to be a bad switch between our app cluster and database. But you're right, lazy developers just want to blame everyone else. I suppose we did learn a thing or two about optimizing our code, but the disconnections weren't our fault...really they weren't 😉

Anyways, for the nostaligic amongst us...

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

ZV

I want to get that on a poster. Or the old school Basic:

10: Home
20: Sweet
30: Goto 10

straight out of the manual those were?

I think I still have mine floating around somewhere.

yeah, just scanned them in. Had to represent the old farts (ok, so I'm only 30). Waves 30-something epeen around.

Oh, and I don't know why all this discussion is going on about the Pats. Everyone knows the Panthers are gonna win it all this year. Two running backs, two wide receiver threats, the NEW, *IMPROVED*, come back kid in Jake Delhomey, Julius Peppers + KEMO-EAT-U + a revitalized Kris Jenkins and this team will be unstoppable. Well until our special teams, cornerbacks/safeties, and 3rd wide receivers let us down 🙁

It's kinda ironic I'm typing this post on a MacBookPro right now. And btw, the 68000 was only a 16-bit processor with 8 bit registers (not sure about that last part though, I just seem to recall hearing that part about 8bits registers)

edit nope I was wrong. It was a 32 bit processor according to wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga#Amiga_software
All Amiga software is 32 bit on all Amiga models including the original 1985 A1000 and the economy A500. All Amiga CPUs contain 16 general purpose 32-bit registers which is more than a 2006 Pentium has. All Amiga CPUs and software may easily move 32 bits of data from point A to point B in a single machine instruction. This 32 bit hardware architecture limited the Amiga 500 to a maximum of 4096 MB of directly addressable ram. Unfortunately the AmigaOS only truly supports 2048 MB.

lol, it's been too long. I was referring to the "blazing" 030 and 040 processors.

always good to recognize where we were back then.

that 217 ip could be a switch or printer

I've also seen people try to bring in a wireless router and plug that into the network 😀
