Got the Job!!!

Woohoo!! I had my third interview with Gateway today and as I walked in the door I got a call from their sales leader letting me know I got the job! I go in on Friday to get all the paperwork taken care of and everything else like that. Glad my stint of unemployment wasn't a mistake and heopfully this works out.

The GM said that he's got two salesepople on his floor making over $70k per year. Maybe leaving my $23/hr at Best Buy wasn't such a bad idea.

Wow, question, can you post your resume? I wanna see what degree and qualifications you have 🙂 (me going into college next year)

is this the one in pleasanton? my friend worked there during the christmas season.. it wasnt very busy from what i heard.. could have been the fact that a Compusa was in the same shopping area..

I just went back to school so the only degree that I can speak of so far is the good ol' HS Diploma. My main qualification is three years in the computer department at Best Buy, with over one year as a supervisor of a top 10% performing department.

All you have is a H.S. diploma?! Damn, I have one of those but I'm only making $7.00 an hour. Life isn't fair. 🙁

If you are good in sales you can make a decent living with little else but charisma. Tough life though, can be really stressful at times.

Yeah, I have to deal with the public in my job too. It really sucks. The general public goes off the charts on the stupid meter. I can't imagine trying to sell computers to the public.

Just takes some patience. I've had some instances where I wanted to bash a customers skull in with a clawhammer. But if someone comes in who really doesn't know anything about what they are shopping for and they are willing to leanr and listen to you and you can send them home with everything they need and happy then its a good feeling. The worst ones are those who think they know everythign about computers and really dont.

Yeah, I figure most people who know a lot about computers wouldn't go to a retail outlet to buy a PC. Are most of your sales to parents who are shopping for a family computer?

Yeah that is a huge part of our customer base. We also do a high volume of small business sales.

good move. i think BB employees are morons (if you guys haven't inferred already by my other posts).

they don't know JACK. at least 99% of them. about computers that is.

take advantage of my unsuspecting friends and relations.

I will agree with you to a certain degree. In most other stores that I've visited in my life I've been unimpressed with their associates. It is of course a biased opinion but I always felt that my employees were pretty good. They of course didnt know EVERYTHING but I couldnt expect them to. What they did do however is make sure that they got a correct answer for any questions they couldnt answer themselves and they always made sure that our customers walked out happy and informed. I think thats the reason that customers would forego shorter trips to other stores in our district so that they could shop with us.

Arrrrr matey,

Congrats on the new job, but you may want to start looking for another. Gateway's in serious cash burn mode and if things don't change drastically soon, they'll go the way of the dodo.

On the contrary, Gateway has zero debt and $2 billion in liquid assets. They are going to start opening stores like wildfire

I doubt that, before I left Gateway they were closing stores & cut %10 of their entire staff!
