Well, nothing's ever totally peachy, right?
I got a course date for my dad's job, Flight Service Specialist. Basically they provide weather information, flight advisory (not to be confused to Air Traffic Control, but similar...thats my mom's job!), flight planning and other services to small commercial pilots.
It's 4 months in Cornwall, ON then 3-9 months on the job training anywhere in Canada. This job is not unlike the army in terms of being placed anywhere, anytime...within Canada. I've lived in 16 different houses, condos, apartments in my 18 years of life...that's what happens when you work for this company!
The good is the pay and benefits. $44k to start after on the job, tops at 60k after about 10 years. 3 weeks paid vacation which eventually builds up 6 weeks a year by the time I'm 50. 10 paid sick days a year. 80% dental coverage...group insurance...all sorts of goodies.
The bad...I leave my g/f of 6 months and I leave all my friends for good. Not only that, I leave my family and live on my own for the first time. Not knowing where I'll be sent after Cornwall is a pretty bad feeling too, there's a good chance I'll be sent up north to some buttfvck town of 500 people... But I'm only 18, so I know career is the most important thing for me right now...
