Got the itch to build a new machine but...

i am currently running a 2.8cP4 @ 3.15 / 1 GB OCZ Ram / u320 10krpm system drive / dvd-rom / dvd-rw / 9800Pro / XP Pro / i865pe based board. i do quite a bit of video encoding and game. what would i need to go to to get a noticeable gain in performance? either amd or intel. or am i at a point where i should just waint another 6mos-1year?

maybe it just feels weird since i built this machine 14mos ago and i usually would upgrade every 9 or so...

yeah but dual cores are definately going to be worth waiting for, specially seen as he seems into all sorts of applications besides gaming.

i know for a fact i wouldnt wait and wait to see what comes next (id be waiting for ever) aid jus build the best i could for the time and money. but if i knew dual core was just on the horizon (for definate) then i would wait

so i guess the next question will be dual core amd or intel? i have no loyalties to either, i have built many of both. basically whatever gives me the best bang for the buck. if it is dual core intel, i am assuming the os will see 4 cpus so is there going to be a patch for xp pro since i am pretty sure it is limited to 2 cpus?

It seems that AMD maybe the better way to go. Dual Cores have basically wiped away Intel's advantage at Video and Multimedia stuff, while AMD chips have always been stronger in gaming performance. The only way you will get 4 Processors showing up is if you get the Pentium D Extreme Edition, as it has both HT and Dual Core, while the regular Pentium D's have only Dual Core. I say go AMD.
