Visio VF552XVT is currently about $1800 at Costco. Before I head over to AVS and become inundated with info, anyone have any experience with this tv?

I currently have a WD Live to stream movies to my tv; I assume that I will no longer need that box.

What's your viewing distance? What's the lighting like in your room (i.e. super bright sunlight with no curtains, etc.)?

That site only mentioned Netflix and Amazon as video sources. If you use other sources, then you might still want to use the WD Live.

Viewing distance is between 8' and 10" for most viewers from a sectional couch and 2 recliners. I also have a computer area behind the sectional with a clear view of the tv that is approximately 15' from the tv.
There are two windows, that are often opened and we usually don't watch tv in the dark. Our main lighting also points towards the tv. I'm not sure if this rules out newer plasmas.
From what I have read briefly; there is a general wireless connection for streaming your own media but it can be a shitty connection.

I sure hope you have HD sports or w/e otherwise whats the point?

lol. We have a small 32" lcd that is about 3 years old. I just wanted to upgrade anyway and the WC, for me, is a better excuse than the Super Bowl. We already have cable, BR, WD Live, etc. as HD sources. Everything is run through an up-converting Denon 790.

the newer plasmas with an anti glare filter preform decently in brighter lit areas but there is a lot of variance between how well those with them preform. those without are sometimes described as mirrors that happen to play HDTV.

in your situation a LCD would be best, 55 is a good size for the main 8-10 feet area and wont look tiny if you are sitting at your comp,

I just got this set up today and the picture is absolutely fantastic. The colors are great and the blacks are about as good as any plasma I have seen.

I just tried with the dslr and I couldn't take a decent pic. I'll try tomorrow with the p&s.

The only thing I would change would be to have a removable speaker bar. There is a weird glass display on the lower left that lights up and advertises the tv's features.

too small, especially for your viewing distance. Go DLP
I must be one of the few people that complete ignored LCD/Plasma sets when I was TV shopping.

Going DLP is one of the best A/V decisions I've ever made...that and buying used speakers😉

and how bulky they are, i would have looked into one more but there was no way it was physically getting into my house where i was planning on putting it

Most RPTVs from the last 10 years can be broken down into smaller pieces and re assembled without ill effect.

Newer RPTVs are not really that bulky anyway.

i had to unbox a 50 in plasma to get it where it is, DLP really wouldn't have gotten there.
