Edited: I got the 250 cards They are slightly faster in PPD than the 9800GTX+, but they are 760 mhz cards. and I think the 9800GTX+'s were 756, so there is a difference !

9800GTX's have 256-bit memory busses, so not 896 megs. Also, what the hell is this, some kind of joke?

you have 19 different Nvidia cards and you are looking to buy another one?

Why not just wait for one to come up on sale? They do often for $100 and less.

Sorry, but you're an anandtech moderator with over 10,000 posts and a bunch of overclocked processors + 19 GPUs in your sig, and your coming in asking a very simple question (Both cards have the same GPU, but one has faster clocks and more memory, so which on is faster? -- really?) with obvious errors in the title. I'm sorry if you are actually serious, but I still think this is some kind of lame joke by a bored moderator who's had a few too many to drink too late at night ;)

Mark, being a moderator, has nothing to do with his question nor should his moderator status be brought up in the context you have submitted here. It's out of place, rude, and uneccessary. You could have just helped him with his question. Learn some manners.

I would recommend the faster, and less power hungry, GTS 250. Also, the extra memory is a nice bonus. Should oc very nicely as well with that nice cooler.

And ya, you do have a lot of posts :D Still, getting the newest thing with these cards isnt always best, there is personal preference and situation. For instance, keep in mind, 9800 GTX's will SLI with the GTX+, but not the GTS 250. A GTX+ is both forward and backwards compatible.

So, I already had a 9800 GTX, if I wanted another for SLI i would look for a GTX+. But I diverge, you are talking about folding, not SLI.

My recomendation still stands, I dont know a whole lot about sparkle. Anyone have any experience with them?

I recommend the most bargains you can swing.

$113.50 = $130 - $6.50 5% bing* - $10 (CC 10% max $10 SNOWMAN10) Palit nVidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB DDR3 with free shipping.

Edit cheaper with a better HS but you have to do a rebate.

$107.50 = $150 - $7.50 5% bing* - $10 (CC 10% max $10 SNOWMAN10) - $25 rebate Asus nVidia GeForce GTS250 1GB with free shipping.

512mb model for under $100

$98.25 = $135 - $6.75 5% bing* - $10 (CC 10% max $10 SNOWMAN10) - $20 rebate Asus nVidia GeForce GTS250 512MB with free shipping.

*Store listed under SuperBiiz be sure to sign in to bing first to get your cash back.

I would go with the GeForce GTS 250, I've had a EVGA GeForce GTS 250 and found it to be a really good video card.

The EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB I had was upto 10% faster than the GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB when using games software.

The MSI GTS 250 will be faster. It has higher core and memory clocks, plus it has more memory.

Although for that price, you could probably find a GTX260 (through deals or used) and it will outperform the GTS 250.

You can't run 18 8800/9800 GT's in SLI at the same time only 3 maybe 4...so get the GTS 250 and start a new branch for christs sake

Keysplayr I get what you're saying - but man I have to say I too felt like the OP was trolling (I personally found it funny as f*ck, but I'm weird like that)

it's just hard to know if that is really genuine given his sig alone

Guys, all these cards do F@H. I am trying to eliminate the slugs (I have 2 8800 320 meg GTS cards).

My 260 896 meg $200 cards do 6k ppd, and my 9800 GTX 512 meg $135 cards seem to do the same ppd, so I am confused, since I thought the 2xx series cards were supposed to be a lot faster than the 98xx series cards.

Maybe everyone here knows something I don't

I have one of each. On some units they both get 6k ppd. Right now they are both on 1888 point units, and the 216 shader is at 7k, and the 192 is at 5500 ppd, so yes there is a difference now. But $135 to $200 ? for an occational difference ? I think the 250 gts is the way to go based on what you guys are saying.

So what is this crap, calling a 9800 GTX+ with one gig memory, a 250 gts ??? Marketing crap ??

I had a 9800gtx+ 1gb it had the exact same specs as the gts 250, and yes it was 55nm, so it ran cool and quiet.

Like I said in the third post, get the cheapest one.

the gts 250 is 55 nm ? I like the cooling solution better than the 9800 gtx. Remember, I run these @100% load all the time. With shipping, the 250 will be $153 vs 135 for the 9800. But for 55 nm (if thats it) the one connector for power, and 1 gig memory, and a better cooling solution, I think the 250 gts might be my winner.

Mark if you are truly not aware:
8800GTS 512~9800GTX~9800GTX+~GTS250

They've all got the same architecture: 128SPs 256bit mem. The only real differences are the clock speeds, manufacturing process, and price.

The reason there's not much difference between the GTX+/GTS 250 and the GTX 260 192 is the older cards have much higher shader clocks than the 260. So over all computational power is very close.

OK, so I got the 2 cards. The first one went in and was going 5-5.3k ppd. Then I put the second card in, now both are getting 2.3k ppd, and one say 1x pcie, and the other 4x pcie. WTH is going on here ???? The same motherboard with different cards, and a different HD OS was getting 2 x 6k ppd with 9800 GTX+'s !!!

That's what happens to me when I think both cards are running their own F@H instance. but instead only one card runs two instances. Essentially cutting the PPD in half per work unit while the other GPU sits idle. make sure your flags are correct.

I want to thank you for reminding me on the flags. _ had missed the "-gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidia_g80 -advmethods", and now PPD is fine. But what is with the x1 and x4 pcie speeds ???? Its a P35-DQ6 motherboard. My other DQ6 is running x16 and x4 !!! It has 2 8800 GTS cards @ 740 mhz.
