Got stung by a bee earlier today and I'm allergic

I was chatting with my friend by his car outside of my house earlier today when this ultra-aggressive bee decided he had had enough. The bee went right for me, my friend smacked it away, and then it went right for my friend. My friend managed to get it off of him, but then the bee went straight for me again. Since I'm allergic, I ran like a little girl back to my house and inside, but it followed me and stung me right below my lip. When you're allergic, bee stings have a cumulative effect, so each time you get stung is worse than the previous time. The last time I got stung, I got stung on my hand and it swelled up so bad that I looked like the nutty professor as he transformed from the little guy to the huge guy. My hand pretty much doubled in size and I actually had to wear a sling.

Anyways, I knew this would end up being quite amusing, so I took pics every now and then to chronicle the changes.

1. Initially, about 5 minutes after Sting, not much swelling

2. Thirty minutes later, OMG WTF

3. Two hours later, a little bit bigger

4. Current picture, the swelling seems to have stopped

stopped growing that is

Cliffs:
1. Stung by an aggressive bee
2. allergic to bees
3. lip gets real big

Update:

I woke up this morning and my lip was more swollen and that side of my face also became more swollen. I went to urgent care and they gave me a shot of benadryl and a prescription for a steroid pack. The good news it that the swelling appears to be going down and I should look fine by tomorrow (first day of the new quarter at ucsd).

Pics from this morning..
Morning 1
Morning 2

Hopefully I'll be back to my Normal self (ex-girlfriend on the left), I actually do have pretty big lips normally.

Also, Forrest Gump is on TV right now on the west coast. :)

off topic: I have to ask, is your screen name a reference to the linguist that once said the most beautiful phrase in the world is "cellar door"

p.s.: you look like my mom after she eats shellfish

Isn't there a shot you're supposed to carry around if you're allergic to bee stings?

Yes. You're supposed to have an epipen. The problem is that my doctor is a freaking a$$hole. The last time I got stung in my hand, the people at the emergency room told me I was allergic (which was quite obvious). A year later I went to my doctor and asked to get another epipen (the one I initially got was expired) because I was allergic, and he looked at the records and told me I wasn't allergic because they didn't list so in the report or whatever.

It sounds like you should be showing those pics in the OP to your dumbass doctor. :p

I don't see that doctor anymore, but I do plan on stopping by and giving him a little lip.

First of all, ROFLMFAO! Sorry, that looks like it hurts like hell, but....

Next, you should find a different doctor. I carried an epi-kit for 40 years...
Lastly, as someone who grew up severely allergic to bee stings, you do know that benadryl will give you SOME relief...right? Granted, it won't stop all the reaction, but the antihistamine should help a LOT...

I took some immediately and then some more a few hours later. I also iced it for a little while and it seems to have stopped. It's too bad I don't have pictures of my hand, because that seemed to be worse than my lip is now. My hand nearly tripled in size.

edit: doesn't hurt at all actually, just annoying. I'm glad some of you found this amusing, I was laughing my ass off earlier.

Didn't anyone tell you? No matter how tasty you think bees are, don't try to eat them.

Um, I don't know if you are "allergic" in the sense that you have an anaphylactic reaction to it (i.e. stop breathing).

My bet is that anyone who gets stung by a bee, swells at the stinger site.

So, put away the Epipen.

That might be what my doctor was getting at, but when the nurses saw my hand and I asked them if I was allergic, they said yes without hesitation and gave me an epipen.

Wouldn't going into anaphylactic shock happen after being stung several times?

I was stung by a bee once, my whole arm became swollen.

Funny though, because I was running cross country one time, was stung three times under the legpit, but no serious swelling. Might have been yellow jackets instead.

When I was about 4, I got stung (according to my mom) over 300 times by a HUGE nest of red wasps...nearly killed me. They had to rush me to the local hospital, and I got a batch of injections along with benadryl, and some other stuff I don't remember...(hell, after the initial swarm hit me, I don't remember any of it) I spent several days in the hospital..."for observation". My mom said the doctor didn't think I would live through it.
Doctors warned me that I might develop allergies to bee-stings after that...and sure enough...so, I had to carry that fvcking kit with me everywhere...don't remember at what age I got the first one, pre-teen years I think.(this was before the current epi-pen auto-injectors) Only had to use it once, (honeybee) but that was enough to remind me to keep it replaced when it expired..
Happily, I seem to have outgrown the allergy in my "old age", as I've been stung twice in the past 15 years with no reaction other than the usual pain and swelling...Last year was a wasp...that S.O.B. hurt and my leg swelled up like crazy, but no anaphlaxia...<phew>

The last time I was stung, I was stung on the foot. It got a little red and hurt, and 30 mins later, you couldn't even tell I'd been stung in the first place. I'm definitely not allergic.

from my experience, you need an epi-pen if you start breaking out in hives after the sting. They gradually get worse and worse until either the hives cause your throat to swell shut and you quit breathing, or anaphylactic shock.
