Got speakers on clearance -- ripped off, or a good deal?

I got some speakers today at Target, that were marked down to $20 on clearance. They are supposed to be Logitech z-540's. At least that is what the box says.

When I got home I realized the contents seemed different from the box. They also seemed to have been returned merchandise.

Anyway, here is my concern. The subwoofer says z-340 rather than z-540. Logitech.com says that both of those subwoofers are 20W - so am I safe to assume those are equivalent?

Also. the satellites seem different from the picture on the box. There are two pairs of satellites. Each pair has a plug terminated in a light green plug, like the kind that goes into the sound card. Each pair of satellites has a plug that goes to the subwoofer (which only had a place for one). Also, each pair has a set on controls on it.

So, are these speakers supposed to look like this? Or did I get a subwoofer with two sets of front speakers?

I can live without rear speakers, since I only use my computer for music listening. I just don't know if these front speakers are less then what I should have got.

Any opinions on the quality of z-340 fronts versus z-540 fronts?

Sounds like you got a box of returned odds and ends packed by a clerk who doesn't know computers from can openers. I'd say that for 20 bucks, if you like the way they sound, you got a deal. If they don't sound ok to you, return them regardless of the policy on clearance items as they are not what was represented on the box.

Yup. At the Walmart I work at, we accepted a computer return - later, when someone who actually knew a little bit about computers inspected the thing, the case was there, but it was empty! Maybe it was just one of those superlight models?:Q

just a bit of advise here if you decide to return them...

i worked at target for two years, and that included a year spendin LP

with retail stores' ongoing agressive return policies, you may have dificulty returning the items if you get someone at guest service who knows something about policy... anyway, if the cashier refuses the return, don't keep b!tching, as they won't be able to do anything. immediately ask to see the manager. at this point the cashier may call the "cash sup". this is still not a manager. it's just another hourly employee who has been in retail too long, possibly with a set of more or useless keys. if you still can't do anything (as the cash sup will most likely try to persuade you to follow policy) than damand to see the manager on duty (in target, known as the LOD). this is the one with all the power. with enough raising cane, they'll give you anythign you want. the reason for this, is that if you ever decide to call corporate offices on it, more than likely corp. will tell the store to let you return it

anyway, that's that. it shouldn't take getting a manager at all, but you never know. this is pretty much the tiering at all retail stores:

1. cashier
2. cash sup
3. manager on duty
4. store manager
5. corp offices

hope this helps somebody somewhere sometime
