EDIT: just bought them!

Excaliberpc sells some pretty good stuff, I am thinking I will put a 1700+ B Tbred in my main machine with some good ram so I can run up in the neighborhood of 200FSB at C2 and then put the 2400+ I have now in the kids machine with my existing PC2100 512 meg chip.

Here are the things I'm thinking about buying:

AMD Athlon XP1700+ 1.47GHZ 384K 266 Tbred B (TRAY) (JIUHB:0307) Price shipped: $64.50

http://www.excaliberpc.com/product_info.php?products_id=1486

and for ram:

Kingston HyperX PC-3000 DDR 370Mhz 256M KHX3000/256 Price shipped: $50.00 each (x2)

http://www.excaliberpc.com/product_info.php?products_id=713

Comments? Anybody think I can do better for $164.50???

EDIT: just bought them!

how about put the 1700+ in kids machine with pc2100 and keep 2400+ for yourself with hyperX lol?

2400+'s are all tbred b, and i believ most, if not all, will get you higher speeds (along with 200freq as well)

or try both in you comp and see which is better and leave the other one for the kids

Either way I would like to get around 200fsb at cas2 on my machine.
I know I can adjust mult & fsb on both cpu's with my mobo (A7N8X deluxe) but the kids box can't adjust (A7N266-VM)
So that's why I was thinking of putting the 2400+ in theirs and the 1700+ in mine.
I would still likely get up above 2.2ghz and theirs would go up to 2ghz.

you should be able to get a 1700 pretty high (I think) in the nF1 board even without changing the multi.:) mechBgon would know for sure!

This particular nforce1 board needs to be modified to adjust fsb. I tried it on one already and screwed up the mobo, had to replace it.
So I might do it again and hope to be luckier however I'm not sure I want to take the chance.

The only way is to cut a jumper & solder it to another spot - then you can adjust fsb but not multiplier.
It's because of the integrated GF2 video.
I've got two of those kinds and will likely attempt the mod again sometime soon ;)

Are sure its worth the risk!?:Q

Sounds like your plan of putting the XP2400 in the Nfrc1 is a sound 1;)

Well I've been encouraged by a lot of good reports I've read lately. Thinking my earlier attempt was maybe just a bit too ham-fisted.
