I just got my tax refund check [$200] and was thinking of blowing it on a decent CPU/MOBO combo. I can go either Intel or AMD. Any suggestions??

For $200 you're not going to get a P4 combo so by default it means you are prolly going to end up going the AMD route. (I can't believe I just said that)

another vote for an AMD system :)

i would get an epox 8k3a (around $105) and the fastest athlonXP you can afford with the remaining $$$ (athlonXP 1700+ is around $95... the XP 1900+ is around $130)

If you want to try overclocking the p4, you can get the 1.6a for $133 (newegg) and the msi 645 ultra for $72 (newegg). With shipping, about $215 by ground.

I'd say go with the shuttle board & XP from newegg. I just went this route a few weeks ago.

Newegg.com current prices:

Shuttle AK31rev3.1 -- $72 + $8 shipping ( take $5 off with purchase of a XP CPU)
AMD XP 1800 -- $113 + $6.95 shipping
