Got screwed on EBay, how much of this is my fault

So I thought I was ordering this-
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/055338...1/103-0284295-4883075?%5Fencoding=UTF8

but i got this-
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/044022...f=sr_11_1/103-0284295-4883075?n=283155

here is the auction, no mention of "adaption by young people", but the ISBN is for that

here is the auction...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

first what is an "adapted for young people" version?

I am waiting for a response from the person I purchased it from, hopefully they will send me a new one or I can at least return it

UPDATE-
Got an email back from them and they claim that they will return it, but not shipping and charge a 15% restocking fee on a book. So at that rate returning will probably be more expensive then the book...guess Ill just sell it on ebay

oh well...lesson learned

should this be a negative response on ebay or nuetral because i didnt double check the ISBN

Yep. It is really your fault if you didn't see it. Perhaps the seller will let you retract, so e-mail them and see.

Edit: Nevermind I can't read.

Ignore what I said. 😛

i dont think the seller purposely tried to deceive you. It is unfortunate, but it cost you $6. to learn to check the ISBN in future.

🙁

I say 90% your fault. The photo is of the young people version and the ISBN number is for the young people version.

I'd go to say that it's actually 95%, maybe even 97%, it's CLEARLY the adapted version, the ISBN, cover and all.

I would say zero, The seller should have written that it is the young person edition.

I don't see anywhere in there where is says it's a adaption by young people version. But it DOES say
The seller, indoo_half, assumes full responsibility for the content of this listing and the item offered.
and in my opinion they SHOULD have said it was not the original version....

Do most people memorize the color of text on a book. No the expect that if it is listed as Flags of Our Fathers (Paperback) it is Flags of Our Fathers (Paperback) and not Flags of Our Fathers : A Young People's Edition (Paperback).

I don't know about you, but if I was ever buying a book on Ebay, I'd be cross-referencing it with Amazon (which has all that info).

It is not the buyers job to make sure the listing is correct. It is smart for a buyer to do because ebay is full of low life sellers willing to try and pass off items for things they are not. But failure to do so doesn't make it the buyer fault.
