Got Rear Ended :(

First, I am ok!

Ok, so I left my college at 10:55pm ish and I have to drive to my house which is about 30 miles down south all highway. It was 11:30 PM by now. The 5 lane highway had 2 lanes blocked because of construction. Just a few exits away from my house.

So Traffic really slowed up ahead and I slowed down, I was going 5-10mph, I saw the guy who hit me coming at me at a high rate of speed, so I put my foot on the brake as a precaution just in case and.... yea he slammed right into me going 20-30mph, I watch the whole thing happen...thank god I had enough following distance from the guy in front of me and I had my foot already on the brake. I did not hit the person in front of me.

(some blah blah)
I turn off my engine and I just cant believe this happened, put on my hazards and called 911, I heard static for a few sec and then it rang twice and someone answered. Gave them my info, I then pulled off to the side of the road once I was instructed to and waited for FHP and they sent medical just in case since I did not know the status of the guy who hit me. Medical got there in about under 5 minutes and FHP came about 5-6 min after they came. The guy who rear ended me was ok as well.

Both the medical team and the FHP officer were really cool and everything. The guy who hit me was not mad or crazy he just had the " god damn sad face on" and was calm.

His Excuse " Sorry, I looked at my watch for a second and hit you"

He has United Auto as his insurance company which my dad told me is one of the worst companies out there in Florida. (my Dad is a Attorney and he does accident cases, immigration and some other stuff) Since this happened so close to my house he came out and made sure everything went smoothly and that all the needed information was exchanged. The guy who hit me also received a Citation I didn't really give much attention as to what he got cited for.

Cliff's:
Was going 5-10 mph in traffic person who hit me was going 20-30mph
called 911
Police and medical came
Exchanged info
Has bad insurance company
what a headache

PICS:
His Front Left hit my Rear Right.
Car that Hit me
My vehicle damage ( trunk still opens and closes just fine)
More pics of damage

It looks much worse in person. I am pissed 🙁

Ouch, similar thing happened to me a few years ago. Be prepared for some neck soreness for the next few days (and possibly longer than that).

That sucks - you just got that car, right?

My poor Maxima went through two accidents in the course of about a month recently, neither my fault. On the first one, I was sitting still in the left-hand turn lane, and a pretty bad accident happened in front of me and one of the cars pinballed into me. It scratched the bumper pretty badly but no structural damage and I was happy to pocket the $700. The second happened while the car was parked, and a bicyclist apparently sideswiped me and scratched up the door. My CSI investigation determined he/she was eating an ice cream cone while bicycling and lost control, ran into my car, and dumped his cone onto my windshield (it was sitting next to my car when we came out). My wife was pissed but I had to laugh.

Glad that you're okay. I don't think the damage will likely qualify the car to be "totaled" which is a bummer. While the insurance will reimburse you, that'll really lower the resale value of your car when it's time to sell it.
Make sure that you make repairs at a reputable shop of your own choice and not the ones recommended by the insurance company. Do look at Yelp reviews in your area in selecting one. I did the same when someone hit me in a Trader Joe's parking lot.

Has anyone quantified, on a large scheme, how much? I personally would not care very much about a previous accident if there had been no frame damage and things looked nicely put together. Further, personally, the huge rear-ending mrsskoorb did in our maxima a few years back was a net gain, IMO. I got new lights out of it, new radiator, new AC compressor, basically a part-refresh.

I guess it depends on the person buying the car. I have to say that I'd prefer to buy a car that has had no accidents especially with so many being sold all around me. A carfax report will hurt the resale I would think.
Even though the repair on my car was fantastic with everything looking original (like nothing ever happened), i could tell the differences driving the car. There were slight squeaks, noises etc that drove me nuts.

I would never buy a car that was in any kind of accident and I don't think I'm alone. They often just aren't the same regardless of how well the repair was done.

I'm sure your father will help you, but pursue the depreciated value of your car after the repairs are completed from the insurance company. If your father will help you, you don't need to use a 3rd party. I used a 3rd party to help me with this after I was hit, and it went fairly smoothly.

From a former G35 sedan owner to another, sorry to hear about your accident.

At least no one was hurt, the guy has insurance and there is no doubt it was his fault.

^^ to everyone

Yea one of my dads old immigration client runs a auto body shop and we have used him like 15times and he does a good job, ill make sure he does 😛, And yes we are going to look at the diminished Value of the car, since now its labeled as being in an "accident" I just hope the damage is all at the bumper and nothing behind it.

oh and yes I just got the Car in the beginning of May

@Balt- my neck is not hurting at all today.

Can't really see the left rear of the G35, but it looks like just the bumper cap and maybe the bumper bar behind it. A straight photo of the back and also of the left rear, in good light would show the damage more clearly. Glad no one was hurt.

Glad you're ok. Sad G35 you got there. Yeah any car accident = 6 months to 1 year of BS dealing with insurance/repairs. At least there wasn't anything medical involved or else it would be more time wasted.
