....but I'm already finished two thirds of it, and I must say this is a GREAT game. Great graphics, great weapons, many environments and enemies, and very good in game sequences explaining your objectives. It's somewhat similar to Doom 3, which was a great game in itself with some shortcomings, but it fixes a lot of the problems of Doom 3 like being too dark and too repetitive, and also avoids the annoying flashlight/weapon switching and the monsters materializnig behind you. It lacks some of the atmosphere of Doom 3, but that's not all that bad because Doom 3 put off a some people by being too scary. The graphics are generally more impressive than in Doom 3 because you can see it more clearly. The action is very linear and you're always told what to do next. It also reminds me very much of elite forces 2, which was another good game by raven software, but it doesn't match their marvelous jedi outcast, which combined enormous open ended levels with intricate puzzles, great light sable fights and good firefight action.

For some people this would be much better than Doom 3 because it changes a lot of things that they hated about doom 3 (too scary, dark and confined), but for people that liked doom 3 it's probably only a little better overall (less atmosphere but better gameplay).

just my $0.02

It's pretty good, but Far Cry and FEAR are much better IMO. The Vehicles don't really feel right IMO, kinda clunky, would rather have Far Cry's or even UT2k4s vehicle implementation.

^^ agreed, far cry is better because it's a tactical shooter with open ended levels and also had amazing outdoors environment (which is an advantage of the crytek engine). I have FEAR but haven't played it much yet, but my first impression was not great - mostly the engine is very sluggish and graphics are not impressive like quake 4 graphics. I highly doubt FEAR is better the Q4, but I think again it probably has more atmosphere and is A LOT more scary, so if you like that sort of thing I can see why you'd say it's better. I plan to play FEAR after I'm finished with Q4.

Quake 4 certainly looks better than FEAR. The Levels anyway. Where FEAR is better than Q4 in graphics is with the use of Shader Effects, very excellent effects. FEAR also exceeds in enemy AI, best AI in any FPS game IMO.

I dunno about shader effects........fear did house some really amazing shaders but q4 look more realistic to me. Although its a more plastic type feel the specular+shaders make an incredibly beautiful game. I think fear has better particle effects though, all in all both made me drool all over.

I enjoyed Quake4 quite a bit and finally got around to finishing it last month. Excellent game!

Still haven't finished Far Cry(got bored) and just plain hated F.E.A.R. although I am trying to play it again since I upgraded my videocard about a month ago.

Quake 4 was what I was hoping Doom3 would be. :D

Doom 3 was great, intense and atmospheric. It was a very immersive gaming experience and truely scary, plus it was groundbreaking as far as the graphics and the engine especially wrt lighting effects (although other engines like HL2 and cryteck had their own strong points). But the game was very long and repetitive, sometimes becoming tedious. I still liked it quite a lot.
