Got pulled over last night - and he let me go!

So last night I meet up with a friend downtown (Chicago), we have a couple of drinks then go somewhere else and shoot some pool. The service sucks so we leave, and we decide to drive out to another part of town to meet a friend of his. We come to a six-way intersection and the light is yellow. He says "Go for it!" So I do, and the light turns red as we enter it. As we cross through we see a police cruiser sitting at the front of the line on one of the cross-streets. He instead turns right to follow us, and puts on his bubble lights. We pull over and he comes up, hiding his laughter quite well, and tells me, "That wasn't even close!" He asks for my license; so I give it to him and he sits in his car for about 10 minutes. He comes back and tosses my card to me, saying, "I'm gonna let you go, but slow it down because that wasn't even close!"

So I thanked him and we went on our way. Man I got lucky, but I'm guessing since my (U.S.) license is only a little over a year old and spot-free that helped. I've only been pulled over three times now (in seven or eight years of driving) and ticketed once. That was on my Canadian license, so I guess it didn't carry over...? Anyway tell us about your experiences here. Maybe I'll share my other two stories later.

When the cop told you to slow down you should have replayed that you need to drive faster so that you can beat the light.

i got pulled over once for not going on green, for "driving kinda weird" and for supposed "old registration"
and other times for nothing too specific. always late at night 2-3 in the morning.

LOL....my friend told me I should have said, "I'm sorry, but I need a faster car!"

Today I gave my sister the car (she needs to go to Michigan overnight) and she gave me her bike. As I was biking home I did some sidewalk riding, esp outside Wrigley after the Cubs game. Didn't know it was an offence! I rarely bike :p

pulled over once for going 45 in a 25 because I made a wrong turn and ended up in a bad part of town (East Palo Alto, aka EPA).
Cop pulls me over and goes, you know that was a 25 back there. I replied, "I thought I was in EPA!" She got pissed and said "There's nothing wrong with EPA!" and handed me back my license and took off.

hehehe, lucky me. I was 16 at the time and nervous as hell! Thinking back I don't think I should've insulted her neighborhood like that.

I guessing the cops are really bored or need to fill quota :p

BTW, someone told me that there are certain times of day when there are the most cops on the roads, since that is when the shifts change - anybody know what they are around here?

I got pulled over going 80 in a 55 by a state trooper. He let me go after I told him I was trying to meet my newspaper's deadline with a mug shot of Randy Moss.

Trooper: "A mug shot? What did he do?"

Me: "He hit a cop with his car."

Trooper: "Oh. That's not good. I'm going to write you a warning."

Got pulled over doing 63 in a 40. Told the cop that some jerks at school thought it would be funny if they put laxative in my soda. I used the term "explosive diarrhea" as an excuse for driving so fast. The cop told me to slow down and "pinch your butt cheeks together." Funny thing is, it was around 5 at night...way after school had already been out.

Hahaha! That's the best excuse I've EVER heard. Pure comedy gold.

Got pulled over doing 77 in a 40 once. Cop gave me the option of ticket, written warning, or verbal warning. I took the verbal warning.

Turns out the cop lived a few houses down from me and was on his way home for his lunch break.

was going over a hill and there was a school zone there..i was flying.

slowed down super-fast and a cop was there at the crosswalk. pulled into the middle of the street basically and rolled his window down and yelled...be careful and you're lucky only giving you a warning...

my friend was pulled over twice when driving my car.

What kind of moron actually would take a ticket over a verbal?

Seriously, did he actually give you a choice between the three?

Yeah he did. I originally said I'd prefer the verbal warning. He then said, either you want the verbal warning or you don't.

He must have been hungry or wanted to get home to his waiting wife. ;)

I ain't got off sh!t.

2 speeding tickets... one of them was just 6 miles over on a 65mph interstate hwy... and a stop sign which was completely hidden but the neighborhood complained about people going thru it all the time (I wonder why) so they had to watch it... cop said he understood, but had to give tickets for it. What a crock. I was with a chick that night too... he could've given me a break seeing that I was on a "date" but didn't. Made her feel terrible too since I took that street specifically to take her home the "shortcut" way.

When I was 19, pulled over and had been drinking. Passed the field sobriety test wonderfully (according to the officer) but he still knew I had been drinking so he made me do the breathalyzer. Blew a .15 (woopsie). Since it was only 1/2 mile from home his partner parked my truck in a grocery store parking lot and he threw me in the back of the squad car and drove me home.

Made me wake up my dad at 3:30am though so he could talk to him. Dad just looked at me and said "get your ass to bed". Never heard another thing about it.

I got pulled over at ~12:30am for running a red light. I was drunk and it was my mom's car. He let me go when I couldn't find the registration
