i drive 50+ miles one way to work everyday on I80 in CA. this morning got caught doing 75...didn't argue or make a fuss, just handed the pig my DL and registration...any ideas to help contest it in court or just pay the damn thing and go to traffic school?

you were breaking a law and you call him a 'pig'?

I can't beleive you got pulled over on 80 between SF and Sac going only 75. The regular speed in the fast lane is 80-85.

Not much you can do though, jsut pay it and take traffic school to keep it off your record.

Quite your whining.

You can always go to court to fight it and hope the officer doesn't show. If he doesn't show, you're home free. If he does, he's pissed off you're trying to argue a ticket when you were very obviously caught, and you have to pay the fine anyway. And you've wasted yours, the officer's, and the court's time.

Or go to traffic school. It's easy and the ticket is erased.

I think in your state you can use traffic school as a deferal. We only get it once every 7 years here, plus the 100 dollar admin fee. It's the shaft.

Pay the fine..pay the increase in your insurance. Speed's expensive. And you don't get there any sooner.

guy at my work got pulled for 75 in a 35, first judge wanted to give him like $500 fine, 6 months probation, and 3 days community service, he fought it and got it down to like $300 fine, 2 days comm service and no probation.

yes as the donut powder were clearly visible on the plus-sized officer

traffic schools online seem to cost only $20, and i think the interval between each admission is 18 month in CA, my last ticket was around 4-5 years ago. would the court still allow u to go to traffic school if i go and try to get the fines reduced?

not much sooner anyways.......do the math....you use more gas(due to higher RPMS) and the ratio of how much time it saves to how much more it wears on your engine isn't worth it.....at least to me

You have to remember that there's two types of points:

1. Driver's License Points
2. Insurance Points.

You have to check your state regs (insurance is regulated state to state), but in mystate, ifyou get a speeding tickt for 9mph over, it counts as driver's license points, but not insurance points.

So....since I have a clean record, if I got the ticket, I'd go to court, and plead it down to 84 in a 75 and pay the fine.

Alternatively, but not recommended....if you are not a crazy driver, you can get a PFJ (prayer for judgement) which is a freebie. Bad thing about it is that if you get any other moving violation in teh next three years, your insurance gets both hits at the same time.

With the ticket as small as it is, I'd just go and get it reduced to 9mph over if your state doesn't add insurance points for speeding less then 9mph over.

but like the other post said, I'm very suprised you got a ticket for 10 over. My uncle's a cop (a seargent--shift supervisor), and he says that any cop (city, statewide) that gives a ticket for 10mph over is being a jerk anyway. His min ticket is 15mph over.

Good luck

i have a strange feeling that being the end of the month and the need to fill quotas have something to do with this. i'm not saying its wrong that i got pull over for speeding. i'm just wondering whats the best way to go about dealing with the aftermath, and not speeding from now on will not help me with the current situation.

There are no "quotas". You broke the law, now face the consequences. Sounds like "responsibility" does not exist in your dictionary.

Wrong. They can reschedule the court date until the officer shows up. I was stopped for speeding on I-10 in Louisianna going 75 in a 70. I went to court to fight it and three times the officer didn't show and they rescheduled the hearing. Third time I got sick of driving all the way over there for the court date and just went ahead and sent in the payment for the ticket.

what "responsibility"? if the lawmakers were concerned about the situation on american roads, maybe they would improve the licensing system so that everyone could drive safely at higher speeds.

there are quotas, a police sgt does not say 'Johnson, you didnt meet your quota yesterday' but the officers are let known if they are not giving out enought tickets.

Well, technically, they "could" fine you for driving 1mph over the posted limit.
😀

aint that the truth, I go up to Sac and back from San Fran 3x a week in the fast lane doing
80-85 the whole time (unless traffic, which is occasional) and hell im just keeping up with traffic.
I've passed cops, cops have passed me...maybe they were running low on meeting the ticket
quota for the month or something.but damn dude that hurts.
