i stopped at a red light. the cop was behind me.
when the light turned green, he flashed his lights.

i gave him my license and regs.
he returned w/a citation, but it was just a warning for the brake light.

the whole thing took less than 2 min.

i got lucky?

yeah, lucky you weren't killed because someone didn't notice you slowing because of a burned out brake light

If you look appropriate that's expected behavior. If the cop disapproved of you(wrong clothes, wrong color, wrong car...) it could have been a much greater PITA.

I never get pulled over. Drive a beat up old truck with all the lights and shit in good working condition. Cops never hassle people like us.

I got pulled over when I was about 17 for a tail light out. Oddly the cop did not pull behind me but instead pulled in front of me. I told him I did not realize the tail light was out and he began to lecture me about how you should always walk around your car for an inspection every time before you go anywhere to make sure all of your equipment is functioning properly. When he pulled in front of me I noticed that he had a tail light out. When he was done with his little speech I simply said "sir, did you know that one of your tail lights is out also" as I pointed at the back of his car. He politely told me to have a nice evening and went back to his car and left.

I've gotten pulled over a couple of times for having dead lights. The cops were always nice about it and I'm glad they told me the light was out.

I think he was being sarcastic about the cop pulling you over. I could be wrong.

And, as we know, they're usually baiting a hook with stops like that, to see if there's anything else amiss.

It just proves that it was not the forum software as claimed. For a tech site there seems to be many issues with the tech involving the website.

Tech site?? OH! Take a bug and rename it a feature, that kind'o'tech?

I got pulled over for driving with NO tail lights or brake lights. There was an electrical problem with my trailer harness. The lights worked just fine when I left. I thanked the officer for pulling me over because, "I'm not worried about a ticket or something - I'm worried that someone might rear end me and get injured or injure me." We figured out that the flashers worked just fine for it, so he sent me on my way with those on. I always carry spare bulbs, fuses, etc. for the car, and keep a brand new set of trailer lights in case of just such a problem. Turns out that moisture had ruined most of the wiring connections.

But, actually, the last thing in the world I would want is someone bumping into my boat and ruining the lower unit. Plus, suing me because a brake light was out. Oddly enough, during the daytime when I'm making trips with one of my smaller trailers (not the boat trailer), I don't even bother hooking up the lights most of the time. E.g., if I'm just making a quick 20 mile trip to the dump or something.

Glad you survived. In my neck of the woods, a dead tail light can cost you your life.

Pulled over for it twice. Once in a '69 Cutlass...just a cruddy connection and I fixed it right there in front of him. Ticket.
The other time was on a R100CS. Ticket. (I'm glad he let me know)
I never get a break from The Man, and I am nothing but polite...Yes Sir, No sir.

Happened to me recently on a Saturday night at around 1am. Cop pulled me over due to my burned out tail light. When he got to my car he saw me, with my huge headphones around my neck (not wearing while driving, just left them there), my monitor and keyboard in the passenger seat, and my tower in the back seat. He asked what game I had been LANing and what games we were playing. He then told me get to get the light fixed, asked if I had been drinking and let me on my way. No ticket.
