Just got a root canal.
It didn't go smoothly.
Convinced my dentist to write a prescription.
I actually thought I might need it.
The numbness wore off and I'm just about pain free.
So now I have this little bottle... :)

Hey speaking of percocets, just tonight I found a large bottle of them dating back to my back surgery in June of 2000.

Obviously they've been expired for years. Would these things be safe to take at this point?

Of course. What could possibly go wrong?

No. But don't throw them in the trash because it's against the law to dispose of them that way. I run a hazmat business on the side and will properly dispose of them for you.... just send them my way ;)

Oh I have no clue. I mean do they expire just because by law says they must have an expiration date? Or do they lose potency over time? Or maybe chemical breakdowns over time make them dangerous?

I really have no idea how safe expired medication is.

Damn there's no way I'd have a bottle of percs that expired in 2000... they would have been munched years ago. If somehow I did have them (as you do), I would put a few of those expired puppies down the hatch right this minute.

Generally, even though the bottle says otherwise, there is very little that can change with a pill that would make it dangerous after expiration (of course stuff like antibiotics or whatnot is different). It is possible it could lose some potency. But I am no pharmacist.

I found it to be a rather pathetic drug. Kept popping them and it didn't do much for the pain other than making me sleppy enough to sleep through it.

I don't remember where I read this, but the "expiration date" on narcotics is usually when they lose 10% of their efficiency

Take some. Then you can be my percocet buddy....it's fun, and not much else in the world really matters.

Disclaimer: I had surgery last week, so I'm taking them legally.

What did they give you, worthless codeine, bottom of the barrel crap? Toradol is a slight step up, yet still sucks.

Am I the only one who got nothing out of percocet when I was on it? Got my wisdom teeth out, popped a few, just felt sleepy. I'm not sure I understand the allure.

Yeah, they're fine. Maybe not quite as strong as when they were first made, but otherwise, they haven't turned to poison or anything like that. IIRC, I have a bottle in my drug box with a 1995 expiration date...;) Of course, I still have 2 large bottles of oxycontin left over from my knee surgery in 04...don't like the dammed things...won't take them unless I absolutely can't tolerate the pain...and I have a high pain threshhold...

They give you tec's (T3's/Codeine) for your wisdom teeth. That is the absolute worst perk you can get. They're like $2-3 a pill here in Canada. Now, if you're looking for something decent, you'll be wanting Oxycontin's. Perks come in different strengths, 10 being the low-end, 160 being the high. It's almost impossible to get your hands on the 160's, and they'd be expensive. Depending on the area, the 40 oxy's are between $20-40. But they're highly addictive.

The 160's were pulled from most places because they were extremely likely to cause an overdose. Seeing as how they contain binders (time release), it wasn't uncommon for people to take too many because they didn't feel the "kick". Same goes for a lot of drugs, really (most common being ecstasy, where the effects might not kick in for an hour in some cases, so a user would double up then OD).

With that being said, many people would be able to see the allure of a good perk, but most users are simply addicted, which drives most of the use.

Perks are extremely dangerous if you have an addictive personality, and if you can avoid taking anything over 10x, you're much better off. It's not something you want to start being dependent on.

How'd you manage to get two bottles? Prescription error or intentional? They're dangerous and I'm surprised they gave them to you in such large quantities.
