Got Parking Ticket in NYC

I got a parking ticket in NYC sometime last month and I cannot find the original ticket.

I tried finding it on the the www.nyc.gov/finance website so that I can pay but it doesn't show up when I put in the license plate.

Is there any other way I can trace it?

EDIT: Just found out (by putting in adjoining states) that they got the license plate number right, but the state wrong. Am I still liable for it

It might be enough to get the ticket thrown out in court. Don't pay the ticket, and wait for it to come back in the mail, then dispute it.

Go to court and contest it and the judge will most likely throw it out.

I don't want to go to court. In fact, I wanted to pay it but couldn't find any tickets associated with the license plate.

If I hadn't snooped around, I wouldn't even have found out that they have the wrong state for the license plate.

It was a friends car that I had borrowed, and I don't want his license to be suspended by not paying the ticket.

All parking ticket offices are closed now. I probably will have to call them tomorrow and find out what I can do.

If they got the wrong state they probably won't tow your car based on delinquency (it won't match in their database). Some meter maids have ticket writing machines that scan registrations though. If the ticket was hand written you should be all right. If it was computer printed I would try to get it paid.
