So what is the deal here? The driver that come with the CD works just fine, but the Catalyst driver (6.10) I downloaded from ATI will not recognise my x1950pro card! Anyone know how to fix it?

system specs:
C2D E6400
Asrock 775Dual-VSTA
1GB DDR400
Powercolor x1950pro 256

the system is working just fine. I replaced a 6600GT AGP I had earlier with this new card. The CD driver is working fine but I don't even know which version it is (how do I check anyway?) but I suspect it's older than 6.10 which was released only a week ago.

edit: control center says I have the 6.9 driver. Still can't get the 6.10 driver to work 🙁

So I tried downloading the ATI Catalyst 6.9 driver from the net and install it. No go, same problem. The 2nd error message says something about installing Standard VGA as display driver. Which should be the default windows driver if none is found. But I can't seem to install it. It doesn't come up when I try to force install new hardware even. Only Intel and ATI drivers (which are 6 years old for 10 year old cards it feels like).

I'm at a loss here, I never had this kind of problem before. My previous Nvidia 6600GT card always installed without a glitch, as did the previous Radeon 9000Pro. What gives??
